Not stirring things up, serious question from an outside point of view.

Why would it be a problem with the senior players?

I dont see why the older brigade would have a problem with having a coach, I know when I coached there a few seasons back I had absolutely no problems with the older A grade players but I did have a few problems with some other players in lower grades. Sometimes lower grade players are lower grade players for a reason!

Just a question and not having played with your older blokes im not trying to claim i know what they are like.

Just from my experience with some older blokes i have played with they havent taken two well to being 'coached' especially when they have played without a 'proper' coach as such.

I imagine the new coach coming from district cricket will probably have a strong emphasis on fitness, warmups, warm down etc etc i know alot of older blokes i played with who didnt appreciate such an approach.

Any ways just starting some cricket converstation rather than blokes pathetically slagging each other off which this thread has turned into over winter.

As coach i have been highly impressed with how the older guys (and younger players) have embraced the training schedule. At the meet the coach session we had an easy exercise circuit that i ran all players through, some found it easy some found it harder but all seemed to enjoy it. This coming Sunday will be a lot harder with a fitness session followed by a skills session.

If we find that some individuals are struggling to keep up then we will make changes and put in place a more personalized training program to improve their fitness.

Yes warm ups and cool downs are going to be implemented and will be used before and after games as well.

Good stuff and having a coach who implements these things definatly improves cricketers as Eastern Park will tell anyone from last seasons experience.

Good luck to Craigmore except when they play us, i look forward to playing against a couple of blokes who i spent some time playing with.

Thanks WHUFC.

There will be a strong emphasis on developing the youth over the next couple of years at the club as these are the players that will shape the clubs future for years to come.

In all seriousness we arent doing anything that is to extreme. We have youngsters from the Junior Grades as well as players who are in their 40s+ joining in, Everyone does as much as they can and if their finding it hard they take a break and join back in when they are ready.

Most of our fitness work revolves around improving core strength.

For some 2 1/2 hours worth of fitness and skills is extreme.

I understand the fitness training/core work, but just not sure the overall benefit you intend to get from it unless it's going to be a long term program?
What is the point in doing fitness work for a few weeks before the season and creating an aerobic base, only for when the season kicks off you stop?
I appreciate that a fit cricketer is going to be a better cricketer, and most likely mentally stronger though.

Lastly, why core work? Why not just straight out aerobic fitness?

Phantom,

We are creating an aerobic base as well as core strengthening. This will be a long term program not just for this season but also for future seasons.

Why core work? Its the one area of the body where you want to be strong to play cricket for extended periods, Bowlers, Fielders & Batters will all benefit from improved core strength.

Although the session lasted for 2 1/2 hours there were plenty of breaks between exercises as well resting & stretching.
