One good thing is that Port do finally have their finances sorted out, at least for the next few years and can address the issues of spending in the Football Department.
Where Port go wrong is constantly trying to do what the Crows do, the example is the refusal of the club to make a change to Adelaide Oval. Yes I know the SANFL would not have liked it and so on. Port need to accept that they a good crowd for them is 25 000, not unlike what the Gold Coast get, and putting that into Adelaide Oval would have given them an edge to marketing and a huge distinction between them and the Crows. The Atmosphere at Adelaide Oval which will be demonstrated when Port play Melbourne there will be 100 times what it is at Football Park. For Port to have tapped into that for the last several years could have made a huge difference, now that its being redeveloped and both sides are going there, there is no advantage and it wont save the club as it might have.
Several players running around in the SANFL might as well be given a shot at the Power, mature aged recruiting may not be a bad strategy in line with the GWS entry next season. I would try and trade for a marquee player/s to build these lads around and for the right people - such as Nathan Bassett to come in and do some work with the Juniors, to feed into the side. Despite the current situation, if the club are prepared to take action they will make a start back up the ladder next season.
