i will check and try and post on here but im 99% sure that they have given Nyrstar in Tasmania a 96% handout so they virtually get away scott free( i believe that was one of Wilkies non negotiables when gillard was looking for his support along with the pokie reform). Also Nyrstar in Port Pirie South Australia has been given virtually a let off as well. i will search for the paperwork but i have seen it for sure.

comments from Mr Turnbull on the "war on science" i found interesting

This is taken directly from the article

"Ignoring what the CSIRO says, ignoring what leading scientists say ... is as silly as ignoring your doctor's advice on the basis that someone down the pub told you his Uncle Ernie lived to 95 and smoked a packet of cork-tipped cigarettes every day and drank a bottle of whisky."

and before anyone points it out, i realise that Adelaide Now is also a "crackpot" site

A man applying for a job at a Riverland Lemon Orchard seemed to be far too qualified for the job.

The foreman frowned and said, "I have to ask you this: Have you had any actual experience in picking lemons?"

He replied: "I've been divorced three times, bought a Leyland P76, a Holden Camira and a Beta video player and took up both Telstra floats. Then I voted for Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard.
"How am I doing so far?"

I was stunned to read that Mr. Abbott believes carbon dioxide is weightless.

“I mean this is a draconian new police force chasing an invisible, odourless, weightless, tasteless substance,” Mr Abbott told Nine's Today Show.

You really have to wonder where Mr. Abbott is getting his information about carbon dioxide and climate change from. It is simply false that carbon dioxide is weightless. Any one who has read any of the science about greenhouse gas emissions knows that these emissions are measured by weight - usually in tonnes.

I did a quick search on google and could find nobody else in the world who has made a similar claim - not even on the climate change deniers websites.

I always suspected Mr. Abbott had no credibility on climate change - now that suspicion been confirmed! :(

I find the most interesting thing about all this is that gillard and swan told the people of Australia there would be no carbon tax under any Government i lead!!?? To me this is what people should be talking about its as simple as that as she told us that before an election that she was not going to do it! AGREED?? So lets have another election and let the people of Australia decide as thats why we have elections and if she told the truth she and her pathetic labor government wouldnt be leading the country into all sorts of trouble!? END OF STORY.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/article/9988590/retailers-will-pass-on-carbon-costs-poll/

More than half of Australian retailers intend to pass on any costs incurred because of the carbon tax, a new survey shows. The Australian Retailers Association study also found almost 80 per cent of shop owners thought they would lose trade as a result of the tax. The association surveyed 500 retailers after the federal government announced details of its plan to put a price on carbon from mid-2012.

ARA executive director Russell Zimmerman says the results show the carbon tax will add insult to injury for retailers already battling falling consumer confidence. "This isn't about big business whining over cost increases and their bottom line," he said in a statement. "These are small retailers who are families, single mothers or young couples trying to support themselves." More than 80 per cent of the retailers surveyed thought the carbon tax would affect the amount consumers spend.

I'd be surprised if 100% didn't.
Covering all costs plus a reasonable profit margin is a natural objective to aim for.
Why would anyone running a business do anything else?

Competition, Psyber.

The haven't mentioned the injection of funds for consumers arising from reduced taxation and pension increases.

Besides, what else would the say in a survey?

Remember, the mining industry were going to be destroyed by a Mining Resources tax.

I note Rio Tinto's half-yearly profit of over $7 billion.

If all the costs are just passed on to the next person in line and end up with the consumer, where is any incentive for the "big polluters" to change what they are doing? All thats going to happen is they will have to pay more to do what they are doing, and they will pass those costs on.
