With respect to Kris Massie, the Bays would be making a big mistake if they give the job to anyone less than a proven career coach. It's my understanding that, at the Bays, the under 18s and reserves (as well as the other junior grade levels) are all coached by rote, using Mickan's game plan. Knowledge of structures and game plans are not required. This is one of the reasons I was so pleased to learn when Mick Godden got the job with the Eagles. I was hoping he would implement the same thing here as our depth is appalling.

Wasn't Mickan the only SANFL coach to 'coach the coaches' and use the same game plan at every grade level? It was my understanding this is why they have such great depth down at the Bay. It will be interesting to see if their depth suffer now that he is gone.

Without going into what a terrible decision it was to sack Mickan, to replace a proven career coach such as him is going to be very difficult to do. Granted, Massie is a good communicator but it takes a lot more than that to be a great coach.

Pretty sure Norwood have implemented a similar 'whole of club' football structure in the last few years.

A far cry from the days of that North bloke and Brett Hand.

Umm Alistar Clarkson had all the grades playing the same structure when he was coaching, not sure if he brought it in at Central but he was definatly using it.

Actually Alan Stewart brought that idea to Centrals years ago. Interesting that others are starting to latch on to it now.

I'm pretty sure we don't have a 'coach the coaches' type philisophy at the Eagles but would be very pleased to hear that I am wrong about that.

I guess my point is that while Massie won an under 18s premiership and was doing well with the reserves, given that they were coached by rote using Mickan's style of play and with no structures, etc required, I don't think that counts for enough to go into a senior role under these circumstances after losing a proven career coach. We saw Mickan do the same thing with us at the Eagles. We had won something like 22% of games the year before he took over and by the time he left 2 years later to go back to the Crows, we had won around 65% of games and played off in a prelim. Also brought the Bays from zilch to finals within 2 years. You can't replace that sort of talent easily.

My money is on someone who has a proven record at senior level. Given the current instability at the club, they would be mad to risk it on anyone less.

I think some are not giving massie enough credit for his knowledge on how to play the game! Sure there might be one game style implemented by the senior coach but when that gets broken down by the opposition during the game, structure changes have to be made pretty quick. Kris did this brilliantly with the 18's last year during the finals. Also, the senior coach doesnt pick the players positions in all grades, that would be left to the teams coach, another plus for Kriss. He identified players strengths and played them in the correct positions. His communication with the players is outstanding, motivation skills the same, and combined with his ability to think on his feet in my opinion makes him the perfect candidate for the job.
The only stumbling block is wether he wants to head to the afl coaching ranks and what that time frame may be.

Which North bloke, Tom Leahy, Haydn Bunton, Bob Hammond all ex-North players who coached Norwood with some success.

Of course they would, just meant it is a step further along the chain and that each step usually leads to more speculation. Will be the same as they get to shortlist and then interview stages. Have not heard any names suggested yet that are any more than idle speculation. League, reserves or under 18 coaches at other clubs, amateur club coaches, VFL or similar coaches have not been listed on here yet, mostly only former high profile players with little coaching experience.
