I played in the same league and I reckon Jamie Downs was a year older then Tyson Edwards. This would make Jamie 32 or 33.

Under estimate those knees at your peril.

And I forgot to mention a football brain that is light years ahead of the average Mallee footballer.

Don't get to carried away with Downs- I have heard that he has had at least 4 recontsructions on his knees and hasn't played a full season in 10 years. I wouldn't be pinning my hopes on that no matter what his brain is like!

Saw him play in 2003 in a trial match for Peake at the Wunkar Carnival.

Despite wearing an enormous knee brace he kicked 6 and hardly raised a sweat. Just used clever body work, positioning and strong one grab marking.

Although I must admit at 11.53 pm on a Saturday night with a gut full of red wine I may have talked him up a little too much.

I was there that day too Supa.

And sometimes at that level - that's all you need.

Lets get off Downs- he seriously will struggle to play more than 2 games this year. We will know a bit more about Peake after Loxton. The real guns that Peake have been rumoured to have recruited are Dunn (Ex Ballarat Rebels and recruited for Sturts league team 2 years ago) and Hawkins (Div 2 medallist in 2005) if the stories are true about them then they may have a chance.

Players missing on both days.
Flashes of briliance. They moved the ball well, but didn't use middle of ground often enough.
Lacking a ruckman - well at least didn't really have one on either day of the carnival.
Their Paralowie recruits will do well for them - should be among the leading players.

We play Pinnaroo this Friday night. I expect they'll pummel us.

Na I think Oxa is way off the mark there, D&O seems a lot more intelligent than Downs no matter what you hear..
