Hogg Champions League 2012

Postby Rik E Boy » Fri Jul 29, 2011 1:05 pm

Next year there will be a 'Champions League' in the Hogg Shield. Invitations to the Champions League will be sent to the following:

Grand Finalists from Premier down to Hogg Division VI (12 teams)
Premier of the Piglet Shield
Premier of the Bunny Bowl
The next four top ranked teams on points.

I don't think this will effect me somehow ha ha. This is a chance for the guns from lower grades to test themselves against the best of the rest. At this stage Gibbo's Underdogs look like qualifying twice so that would open up a spot for 5th top scorer available.

Nice idea REB but I'll be declining any invitation to join as it's not in the best interests of my team. ;)

Absolutely Brilliant, if only we could arrange a knockout (FA Cup style) competition of some sort

We would have the scores each week so would just take someone to work out the initial fixture/draw, and then someone with excellent experience at score tallying .. Like the bloke who did the EPL tallies last year ;)

You know what, i would actually be pretty keen on getting it up and running! I am happy to help REB out if he needs, we all know he does a fantastic job so i dont want to get in his way. Maybe we should create a thread to see who would like to be involved in a FA Cup style (could name it HOGG Cup) knockout competition before we go ahead?

You don't need to 'sign up' people for an FA cup style comp, just take a note of their scores. Take the top 64 point scorers. 1 plays 64, 2 plays 63 and so on. Set it up as four 'quarters' of eight games so that when 1 defeats 64 he or she then gets to play against the winner of the 32 v 33 match.

The whole thing would take six weeks to complete. In other words you take the top 64 coaches on points six weeks out from the end of the season and there is your 'FA' cup for the Hogg. That means one week too late for this year.

If you are going to do it for this year you could only include 32 teams. The first round of a 2011 knockout comp involving the current top 32 would look like this....

Darksiders v Brownys Boys
Cossi's Carnts v Captain Who?
Hondominators YSCC v Dusty Tunnels
Has Been v Trader
MILLER MOSQUITOES v Far Q
Greedy Guns v Toolman
Cork in the Ocean v BERBA DTC
Hairy Chequebook v wycbloods
Honey Badgers v Chicken Noodles
Les's Men v Boongas Bulldogs
Underdogs v Jim's TigerRoos
Squeakeroos DTC v Toomenny Beers
Buddy Franklin v Hondas Heroes
The Wizard Sleeves v BenjisBeasts
Longwood Lions v Stats That Matter
WLF v Delicious

Favourites on the left. So if the Favourites got up Cossi's Carnts would have to find out just how tough it is trying to beat the Darksiders!

Go to it gentlemen. As of this season I'm not even close to being elite.

Or you could do a knockout with all teams involved in HOGG and put everyone into a draw and put the top 20 teams aside and draw one out at a time so you dont draw rank 1 v rank 2 aganist each other. Something to read more into early next season but i am happy to get on board and help if you like REB :)

Oh so i would play Groover this week, pft easy ;) see you next week Darksiders lol.
Only problem is teams are fairly depleted this week

Yep a great idea cossi. I reckon no seedings or free rides during the first rounds though - everyone in and a totally random draw.
