The Hogg Promotion & Relegation Thread 2011

Postby Rik E Boy » Wed Jul 20, 2011 12:09 pm

Greetings folks a little early this year but I got a PM from cossi and a comment from the Creature that is mythical so I thought I'd lob with some clarification. This year there are two types of leagues, Head to head and 'Pool' leagues.

These rules were voted on during the 2011 Hogg Shield election earlier in the year. This means from next year the pool will be abolished and four go up and down except for the two top divisions.

Promotion/Relegation rules

Hogg Premier:

Relegation: Losers of relegation finals (Round 21) relegated to Division I. Relegation finals are 13 vs. 16 and 14 vs. 15. Winners stay up.

Hogg Division I:

Promotion: Grand Finalists promoted to Hogg Premier League
Relegation: Losers of relegation finals (Round 21) relegated to Division II. Relegation finals are 13 vs. 16 and 14 vs. 15. Winners stay up.

Hogg Division II:

Promotion: Grand Finalists Promoted to Hogg Division I
Relegation: Bottom four teams on the Premiership table at the end of the minor round (Round 24) relegated to Hogg Division III.

Hogg Division III:

Promotion: Preliminary Finalists promoted to Hogg Division II
Relegation: Bottom four teams on the Premiership table at the end of the minor round (Round 24) relegated to Hogg Division IV

Hogg Division IV:

Promotion: Top four point scorers at the end of the season promoted to Hogg Division III
Relegation: Bottom four point scorers at the end of the season (Round 24) relegated to Hogg Division V

Hogg Division V (Piglet)

No relegation or promotion but the Piglet will be Hogg Division VI next year.

Hogg Division VI

Top four point scorers at the end of the season promoted to Hogg Division IV
5th-12th point scorers at the end of the season 'promoted' to Hogg Division V
Bottom four point scorers at the end of the season (Round 24) relegated to the Bunny Bowl (pending Bunny invites take up)

Hogg Division VII (Bunny Bowl)

Promotion: Top four point scorers promoted to Hogg Division V at the end of the season (Round 24)
The Bunny Bowl will probably be Hogg Division VIII next season with Division VII being reserved for new or returning coaches if we have enough of them.

Notes

There will be a 'bunny invite' sent out to the worst sixteen coaches (by points) in the Hogg this season. If Blue Boy for example, accepted his invite he would still be able to participate in Division III if he wanted to. If any of the lowest sixteen don't accept the invite there will be more invites to the next weakest coach. No new coaches will go into the Bunny next year as the intention of that league is for part time or just plain ol hopeless coaches can rack up a few wins or even a flag.

If you don't understand why some leagues are still for points then please read the Hogg Shield Election thread. Next year there are no pool leagues and the promotion/relegation model will be as per the first four divisions.

Just some clarification between the two above REB. You say end of minor round (round 24) and then you say end of season (round 24).

You're more than welcome Fonzie but the existing coaches voted on a system that would start you off in a fairly low division. We've got a top ten ranked coach in the Bunny Bowl this year. If you want in all you have to do is send me your email address once the invite thread gets posted during the offseason.

The only dumb question is the one you don't ask, nothing wrong with clarification. ;)

Reb, clarification please.
In the event that some coaches in say div 3 pull the pin next year, would you promote more teams from Div 4 this year, or would you stick to the 4 the earnt the rise, and then pick the best overall from all divs?

The next highest ranked team in Division IV (total points) would then take the spot in Div III. It would therefore be possible that if the top ranked Division VI (remember that Div V is the Piglet) side outscored the 5th ranked side from Division IV could earn the promotion. This is because that promoted side would then be considered a Division IV side during the offseason.

Last year we had blokes pulling out all over the place. Division I was full of holes so I just picked the highest ranked players available and this year that turned Divvy I into the best league in the Hogg. More than one coach was not happy with this though so the model above will be used next year.

Agree, REB you do a great job - thanks.

I wonder if Supercoach will expand to 18 teams per league next season? I bet they do, which would mean only 1 round of non-supercoach action.

Would then effect the promotion/relegation system in place this year. I guess that bridge will be crossed when it comes!

Fairly easy, 3 up 1 down at the top, 6 up 2 down in the lower grades.

I think it'd need to be a bit more complicated than that as each Division needs to gain two extra teams. One way of doing it would be:

Hogg Premier: 2 out to Div I; 4 in from Div I.

Hogg Div I: 4 out to Premier; 2 out to Div II; 2 in from Premier; 6 in from Div II.

Hogg Div II: 6 out to Div I; 2 out to Div III; 2 in from Div I; 8 in from Div III.

Hogg Div III: 8 out to Div II; 2 out to Div IV; 2 in from Div II; 10 in from Div IV.

Hogg Div IV: 10 out to Div III; 2 out to Div V; 2 in from Div III; 12 in from Div V.

Hogg Div V: 12 out to Div IV; 2 out to Div VI; 2 in from Div IV; 14 in from Div VI.

Hogg Div VI: 14 out to Div V. Probably should just put the next best 16 from Div VI and Div VII here?

Hogg Div VII: The two worst teams from Div VI and Div VII plus the newbies?

My head hurts :(

LOL@fishy.

I'll worry about the eighteen team comp when it happens. Right now I've got some donut issues to think about plus a long shot finals campaign in Premier and the Piglet.

LOL my evil plan is to get promoted into Div III any which way I can!

I'm currently sitting 10th in the Div IV points rankings so under my very thoughtful and scientific promotion/relegation system I'm going up! \:D/
