I watched the game from the kiosk hill all day and thought a number of times how enjoyable and relaxed the mood was up there. Actually, at times, thought it was one of the quietest crowds I've ever heard at a SANFL game, in terms of support for both teams, so was surprised to read a couple of things on here about crowd issues.
The game itself wasn't one that many fans will rush to buy the highlights reel from, but it was a workmanlike win by Norwood after a very spirited start by South. After quarter time, Norwood just dominated all key areas, using their run from defence a number of times and working the ball well around the flanks to isolate runners in space. Brady Dawe proved the focal point that South struggled to find a matchup for all day. Taylor Walker played the second half on the ball but to be honest, thought he was disappointing for much of it. Seemed to run to the wrong places a lot and just didn't ever look like making an impact.
South fans must be thrilled with Michael Wundke. He leads the SANFL goalkicking now by a fair margin and it would be just reward if he was to win the Ken Farmer Medal. Toby Stribling tried hard, but their biggest achilles heel was how often, from kickins - particularly from the Northern end - they simply went straight to the western pocket and Norwood were able to pick them off with ease. Seemed to really lack the same bounce and spark I saw against Sturt last week. Not sure if the season is catching up with some of the younger players, but Norwood seemed to be able to run away from Panther opponents with ease a number of times today.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...
