IIRC the biggest celebrations by the players were when Mayes kicked his goals, looked to me like the established players were giving him a huge pat on the back.

I was talking about the players. No issue with fans celebrating. But players celebrating in such a manner is odd. They all got around Mayes when he kicked his second and came from all over the ground. The sort of celebration normally saved for a kid's first ever league goal, a player's 10th for the day or 100th for a season or a goal to go in front late in the game. But it was none of those. Then the next one, Armstrong wasn't involved in the play and started jumping in the air pumping his fists on the wing. Very odd.

Interesting people seem to think the comment was stupid, yet nobody is actually disputing what I've said or the conclusion it says something about North. Apart from the idiots who didn't understand and didn't bother to seek clarification. Loved Jimmy's post about being stupid when he probably didn't see any of the game and has that avatar of John Hinge. Thanks for the irony. Lol.

Ryan O'Connor did the same thing. Looked great, got plenty of the ball but he let's you set up and the next kick isn't damaging enough.

Not too worried about the height issue just yet. Obst's loss was always going to sting when his most logical replacements were Henderson and Gunston who both are likely to play a few games for the crows. Might not see them back for the rest of the AFL season either. Down back, we've got Hayes and Sibenaler to come back in and Hardy will be better for the run. Gill was good today (and somehow kicked straight!) but he won't get a kid with a corky every week. I get the feeling North are in a similar position, Havelberg smashed Ivens playing full forward in a side with a badly beaten midfield. If Ivens is going to have to take the best key forward every week they won't win too many.

Was looking at this block of 4-5 games before the split round as a patch we were likely to drop a couple of games. Walking to the game I was even thinking we were somehow a chance to escape winning them all! But not to be, North did the job but one wonders whether the massive celebrations like a bunch of 12 year olds winning a GF after every last quarter goal says something about where they're at right now.

 what an idiotic statement. Let's think here: um, maybe they are celebrating coz top is losing to bottom and they wanted to rub it in your smug faces, hmmm? Also, there team is kicking goals against the best side of the last decade leading to a massive 33 point thumping.

Honestly, you can't be this stupid mate!

you must forgive us Jimmy. We centrals fans forget sometimes that our club
maintains a constant professional approach/focus on winning this years flag.

We sometimes forget it's not fair to place these lofty standards on the lesser clubs. Please forgive us mate.

Apologies Graham, I incorrectly thought you were talking about the supporters.

A few weeks ago I went through the teams in the budget and worked out the average age of each side and North was the oldest (that may have changed in the last few weeks), so I don't think you can put it down to inexperience.

Is it a case of the players getting used to the new coach or something else?

From where I sit as a member of the Club and a life long supporter of the Roosters this year is a breath of fresh air after the last two years of under performing, negative, defensive ,possesion at all costs, backward kicking boring ,frustrating footy that drove most of us to despair. If the Club had not changed coaches I for one would not have gone to another SANFL game this year. I would have got my footy fix around the corner at Broadview. Tirade over, the game style has changed and the players have had to adapt to this new style . Simple. We have not won more games because we have not got a tall, strong ,experienced ,hard body in the back six. Get the CHB position filled with a Ryan Ferguson type player and a genuine FB with 100kg's and can run we will be about the place in finals. IMHO, coach is a hard task-master who demands certain standards and if those aren't met, your not playing in the a grade, end of story. Rest of the year will be a good look at how things go next year with J Francou in year two.

Oh, and in most games North have given away 4 or 5 goals with stupid mistakes and poor skills and decisions under pressure. No excuses, just a fact of footy which we all have to live with

I for one was not confused about what you were rubbishing the North Adelaide players about. It was all too clear who you were having a crack at. Still think you are wrong to infer that the Club has a cultural problem and the players are at fault, but each to his own.

Obviously wasn't at the game but good on the North players for showing some passion. Although highly unlikely, it's not totally inconceivable that they can make the 5.

All I'll say to some Doggies fans is make hay while the sun is shining bright, but when the karma bus hits it will be almighty thud ...

No, there won't be a "thud", if/when We do stop winning flags, We won't go bottom, the winning culture is now bred into The Club. We have now become what Port used to be, We will always be a threat.....but I will still offer free Gummi Bears.

Anyway, interesting to see how North develop next year ... certainly have got some good scalps this year but have dropped way too many games.

Supporters generally seem to think that the club is on the right track.

What's the expectation for next year then?

Depends on recruiting. If North recruit some height and strength in defence, a hard at it midfielder and a crumbing forward they could be a top 3 contender. A lot of ifs though. Interestingly North have the 4th best percentage in the comp, that suggests where they should have been this year.

I don't think you know you have (had) a culture problem until you don't anymore, if that makes sense. I am also in no way saying that North have a culture problem either.

I didn't think Centrals had a culture problem in the 80's and early 90's. I thought we were great and just weren't good enough to win any finals. I can now see that we did have a problem with our culture. We were a club happy with mediocrity. I would add more to that but I don't want to single out any one club with comparisons to Centrals to the 80's and 90's.

Hopefully Centrals maintain their current culture even when they aren't the top dog anymore. This is why I have been more pleased with Centrals this year than in the past. We have proven that when things don't go to plan we can still maintain our competiveness. We have proven that we have good stuctures in place at the club. Other teams would have fallen into a heap with the injury list Centrals have at the moment.

Even if Centrals didn't win or make the GF this year it would be a pleasing year in some aspects and I would be confident going into next year.
