Thomas, Cica and Gallagher wouldn't have been playing for only the minimum payment all these years.

any high profile players are paid by the AFL respective clubs

So is it the Crows or Port who pay James Allan? How about Jeremy Clayton?

Bit of a "cheap shot", you're taking advantage of her dehydration. ;)

Id like to see Ruccis angle on this. Have a go at a SANFL club who possibly are $10K - $30K over the salary cap so that they get thrown to the wolves.

But POrt Adelaide over spends to the point they become $3.5 mill in debt and force the SANFL into its worst financial position since AAMI Stadium was built. BUt that is completely acceptable as its everyone elses fault for holding them back.

Rucci you have really lost it!!!!

I don't understand much of Rucci's crap. Including the following "Kevin Sheedy is curious to know how Central District is the only football club in world history to not lose a player while suffering from salary cap pressure", WTF does this mean? If there was no salary cap, could they have convinced, Bello, Hopwood, Scoullar, Stevens *2, Hay, Faulkner, Cowan, Ware, Wilson Giles and Lawry to stay, instead of playing elsewhere??

Has Rucci written a positive article on the SANFL in the last twelve months?? He's the cheif football writer, yet constantly bags the SANFL and it's clubs, and the clubs management (with the exception of Port). He is a disgrace.

These rumours seem to be based on the assumption that CDFC wins more GFs than any other club so they must be paying their players more.

If the other clubs believe this then it is no wonder they are struggling to keep up with the dogs.

If higher paid players win matches then why haven't the dogs been losing lately as they have been fielding young (cheap) sides?

And if Roy Laird refuses to take more money for a job in the AFL why wouldn't his players have similar values - they play for the club not money!
We used to be good :-(

Lets do the math. The sanfl salary cap is 335k if I remember correctly. That includes all league and reserves players.. I am led to believe that top line sanfl players, ie ex afl listed or multiple premiership players are recieving around 50k or in some cases quite a bit more. If a club has 4 "top line" players there goes more than 50% of that clubs' salary cap.So do the other 40 players on that clubs senior list play for the love of the club..?
There are some very creative ways for clubs to get around the cap apart from the brown paper bag.The secret is to generate cash that doesnt go through the clubs financial records where it may be perused by the sanfl.
If the sanfl is naive enough to believe that all is well with salary cap breaches and that no club is breaching the cap Ithink they should look a bit harder. ;)

At one club the minimum payment for a league game is $200. Reserves get $75. I would assume most clubs would be similar.

Is that the before or after tax payment... most reserves players are between $70-$100 per game... then take out tax and super if they have it... then get that paid monthly... not hard to see why reserves standard players leave the SANFL system

Yes should clarify that is Gross payments. Tax/other deductions (medical expenses etc) are taken out of that as well.

Read the comments about not losing anyone to salary cap pressures and lack of transparency. I get the feeling Rucci is trying to pick a fight over the PAFC finances issue and one club business. It's not journalism, just trash-mag propaganda.

My thoughts exactly, Rucci cracked the sads when Sir Les wrote his letter potting Port Adelaide and the AFL, and has been looking to white anting the Dogs (and SANFL as a whole) as pay back. What better way to do that than suggest, with his, ahem, "humorous" innuendo. IMHO
