I still don't understand what the problem is with the bye

no-one is saying there is a problem with it. What I am getting at is, if a particular team doesn't recognise the potential of the area, could the SANFL dedicate all or part of the area to another team? Like Port Adelaide took part of Central's zone. Look at what happened in Blackwood too.

Hate the bye, especially when multiple sides have it on same weekend. Would love a 10 team comp, currently more than half the sides qualify for finals what a joke

"currently more than half the sides qualify for finals what a joke[/quote]" I totally concur! mediocrity is being rewarded!! Far out, are you sure you're a Norwood supporter? We tend to agree too often. ;)

The team finishing 3rd this year may have a 50/50 record also. Mediocrity rules.

I agree with the finals series being too accepting, but disagree with the bye being bad for the comp. The bye is a large part of the ability of players to last a full season at maximum effort, very valuable to the players and must be kept, IMO.

Don't think you can compare Mount Barker to Peel region as Peel region is far bigger now than what Mount Barker will be in 25 years time.

Having said that, Any new team that went up there would have to be mainly supported by people that move to area as most current residents already have their own local allegiances similar to the problems South have found with potential supporters being more interested in Southern League - That's not a reflection on South Adelaide, it's just the way it is.

Changes in zoning are nothing to do with teams not recognizing potential of areas or not working that part of their zone. The Blackwood example is a case in point where the Blackwood Football Club requested to remain in Sturt zone, Sturt requested Blackwood stay in their zone and then the SANFL handed it to West. Because of it's particular location Blackwood has been swapped between South, Sturt and West over last 20 years. This is all about population distribution of young males and not a reflection of clubs work in that area.

No problem with a mid season bye for all clubs at same time, major problem with sides having bye week before finals. Take this year for example, imagine the uproar if Centrals had the bye in last minor round game and finished minor premiers, two weeks without football would be an absolute farce.

Someone has to have it. I really believe the bye is a good thing - I reckon Andy Collins might agree at the minute.

Was that 2002 ? The last minor round bye should always be allocated to the team that finished bottom the previous year .
