They said that about Centrals when they entered. Think the locals would support a local side and its more about the next generations. With all the young families and kids living and going to school up there the aim would be for a fair whack of them to get onboard
Disagree. Centrals entered when the SANFL was the premier comp thats accessible. Post Crows and Power entering the comp is a different story. Thats why I asked how many fans Peel Thunder have.

Not sure about Peel Thunders numbers. When i was over there i remember one fan telling me its about 90km out of Perth though, so wonder how many fans travel down there

Seriously though, the sanfl does not need another team. Sturt need to make the tough decision and get up there asap. The opportunities at Mt Barker are limitless, plenty of growth, plenty of young people, lots of infrastructure being built, plenty of scope for pokies. How many of the well heeled folk of Unley would wile away an hour or two a week poking coins into pokies?, much more of a chance of that happening up the hill- and its still in their zone!

We did it, shifted to Noarlunga- it was a tough decision and hard work, but a few years down the track we have 2 things we would never of had at St Marys. A solid financial base and position and a home ground thats ours and no-one elses.

Just bite the bullet and do it! you wont benefit now or next year but 10 yrs down the track you will still have a footy club and will still be in existence.

I'd be against it unless the SFC could convince me otherwise. I was born and bred in the hills, all my family still live up there but I just can't see that many people would travel up there especially other teams supporters.

I don't think it would be a good move due to the fact that most country people go to thier local country football/netball. I think the only way it would be a success the games would need to be on Sundays.

With todays footy market saturated with AFL I just can't see Sturt or any club attracting a huge slice of supporters from that area. It worked for Centrals as the SANFL was the only game in town and attracted a supporter base mainly not made up of existing footy supporters.Footy has changed and the days of supporting the team from your area changed decades ago . It's a nice dream and makes sense in theory ..........just not reality.

Mount Barker is growing at quite a rapid rate of knots & there are approximately 7,000 new homes proposed for the immediate area & out to Wistow in the next 10 to 15 years. The government is starting to prepare for this expansion, as there is a $247 million sewerage plant to be built in the area in the near future. In time, gas will follow, as well as the train. My question is, if Sturt don't go out there, who will the SANFL "allocate" this area too? Another current club, or possibly a new one!

I always thought gas came before sewerage.

You'd think that Centuwion would know these things.

This is a sensible post. I don't know what should be done but I doubt we will see another team in that area. Likely, the SANFL will just rezone it to slice it up if it gets too big or something similar.

Doubt it could be big enough for it's own team as the country folks likely have their own team or already have country sports committments.

If any area, I think gawler should get it's own team, maybe the b and l league come together to put their own team in???

A 10 team comp is ideal but not going to happen anytime soon.

If you want Sturt to move then why not shift Centrals to Munno Para West while you are at it

Our current record performance wise at Elizabeth would make it a massive gamble imho, though i live in Munno Para West so walking distance would be great.

Don't forget that Mt Barker is actually part of Sturt's country zone. I would be willing to bet that they set up a bit of a home away from home there and perhaps play the 3 or 4 home games that they currently play at Adelaide Oval in Mt Barker. The dream of having a tenth team in the comp is just that, not only financially but would throw a huge spanner in the works in terms of zones etc.
