Tyson Wait and roger Puckridge played for you guys before the points system came into affect.

Yes i am aware Tyson Wait and Roger Puckridge were signed the year before the points came in.
and yes Tailem would be a big force if they can hold onto there big name players.

Look at the Lyall Parker Shield, homegrown depth generally influences overall club success and sustainability.

The smaller populated catchment towns generally rely on the 'waves' of playing groups to succeed. If those waves are less frequent and populations decline, or competitors seem like a 'greener pasture' then clubs struggle.

Depth has a huge impact on the cycles of success the smaller towns have, like the Meningies, Tailem Bends and Jervois of the RMFL. Success is generally followed by lows due to resource depletion, mainly human and capital.

However, when the money keeps coming and the players too, the environment generally is a little bit more pleasant and promotes 'KEEPING FRICKING PLAYERS' hey Wiz.

As for Tailem Bend, 2011 has been an improvement and 2012 will be another step towards the top 3.

Here we go again!!!

Most of you wouldn't have a clue about where Tailem Bend is at. The points system is the biggest issue for Tailem Bend. If there wasn't a points system then I know Tailem Bend would be able to field a side that would compete very strongly with the top 3, but this wonderful system and their lack of depth forces them to play the 17's lads. The players the club has had to turn away because of this system is cruel. You have no idea!!!

I think the points system is starting to work, and I'm involved with one of the lesser populated clubs, our biggest trouble is affording to get players to use all our points up, so I'd be interested to know where taliem are continually coming up with more money to get more and more players,, by what your saying big fulla, is that points is taliems issue as money is ours

Thats a bit rude! Whatever recruiting issues you may have are your issues, that question is just bad taste and lacking in class.

Wasn't meant to come across as being rude big fulla

The Lyall Parker should be looked at not by population but by the clubs junior devolpment, Imperials have one of the greatest players and coaches from the RMFL looking after the Juniors he has control of everything the coaches choose to plan and the way they devolp the squads and this man is Steve Sumner, i am sure if you put a man like this in charge with juniors at any club he would devolp a strong squad, the other point is Mypo Juniors have always been good and there netballers in all grades have always been good why cant they get strong seniors from this?

I hope i have made sense here i have put alot into one paragraph.

So Steve can turn a town of 500 kids into the same talent of a town of which 5000 reside? is that what you're saying?

Footywiz81 very strange posting. What has netball got to do with being a strong football club. Some of the girls at Mypo have no affiliation with the football club I.E husbands or boyfriends. As Far as junior developmeant goes of course the local teams should be stonger with the population per head. If a new family moves to the Bridge good chances are they will go to a local club so they do not have to travel to get to training or games. 75% of the games played in the town they live. The only way the outside teams get stonger in the juniors is from Familys moving to that particular town or if the kids have mates that havent played the game before and want to get involved. Get your head out the sand Footywiz81 and look outside the circle.

that is the benifit of the system you cant just go out and get a new 5 players every year.

Wow, I didnt think of that

Bottom line, points system doesn't help when you have to turn away good players because you cant fit them in to your cap. Current reality. You say benefit, I say detriment.

everyone turns away good players because of it, every club would have a list of players they have gorn for and in the end couldnt fit them in because the system but that is how it works, clubs that were struggling when they brought it in were always going to struggle for a few years but bottom line is HOLD ONTO RECRUITS, make the enviroment for them enjoyable.

I can only go indepth with the Imperial Squad but in last 4 years we have recruited.
Josh Charles (left after 1 season, didnt enjoy the enviroment)
Roger Puckridge (left after 3 seasons, moved back home to run farm)
Tyson Wait (Still There, 4th season)
Daniel Girdham (Still There, 3rd season)
Jamie Honner (Still There, 3rd season)
Joel Fitzgerald (left after half a season, moved back home to work in job he has always wanted)
Simon Tyler (Still There, 2nd season)
Boyd Kenny (Still There, 3rd season)
Zeb Kenny (Still There, 3rd season, isnt playing anymore he is asst coach.)

I dont think i have missed any but that list just gives other people how to build a list, These are all EP Boys and all spent time together at somestage either playing footy or having a few Red Cans.

Out of interest Wiz how many of these recruits live and work in the Bridge???

Imps and Ramblers Undermanned!
you are a joke biffboy go home and re arrange your jock draw before you post another blog!

Geez what a tirade!

So am I not allowed to compliment our team for holding it together despite injuries? I wasnt having a go at any other teams, just merely stating that I still think Ramblers and Imps are the better teams going around at the minute.

Yes I am well aware that other teams have injury worries, who doesnt at this stage of year?

To be honest, in the past this has been when Ramblers have struggled to even be competitive with key players missing let alone keep winning.

Maybe if your team showed the same passion on the field as you do writing a blog, then they would be more succesful at the moment.

Thats hilarious. I know Steve is a great coach and the program they have is something to aspire too, but the numbers and access to numbers do have an impact.

It does also raise the question around junior programs and league supporting clubs in developing these to ensure the sustainability occurs. I know big name players bring people through the gates but families with kids have a significant impact on the leagues bottom line aswell. Investment in juior development is crucial, if programs were innovative and more secure then the smaller towns might be able to retain more as their junior experience may be a more positive one and equip them better for senior footy. Retention in the smaller pool is something the bigger clubs dont feel as much as the smaller clubs, simple mathematics and economics really.

None. Imp$ have always done a good job holding onto their players. Why would they want to leave?

Would giving the 2 Bridge clubs 2 fewer points to use per game help close the gap a little? I guess the reverse to the exception that Meninge get, which is fair enough.

Just a thought. Would the points system impact on people that have moved to the area for employment reasons on where they could end up playing football if the club has used all their points and are alraedy playing juniors? I know the points system means that you have to play people in the ressies and senior colts to get the club under their allocation if you recruited heavil,y but what happens to the blokes that want to go to a club of their choice if they have moved to the area and they come with points because of where they have played footy previously.

Imps have always had very good juniors, its no doubt in part because of good development, but its mainly because of the population base they draw players from.

Your explanation is a little bit confusing but I'm pretty sure points are points. We had guys move back to the region for work and family reasons but still come with points. The only exemption clubs get for guys relocating is around the recruitment/clearance deadline. If someone moves into the area after the cutoff date they are still eligible to be cleared. Thats my understanding of it anyway.

i was told Ramblers weren't even using all their points?? so atm no losing 2 points wouldnt hurt them.

as has been said 1 year fix's arent what a club like tailem needs. next year, all this years recruits will lose a point and you will be able to get a few more blokes, and if you do things right keep your current good ones.
sure when you hit rock bottom the points system hurts you on the way up. (which potentially could be addressed) but it is from an outside veiw a pretty solid system.

But it might next year or the year after.
It's also hard to hold on to recruits when your getting belted each week regardless of the culture at your club. Players can hang in there but for only so long, remember most of these recruits travel 45-90+ mins to play at clubs in the Rmfl. Country clubs at the bottom need to be able to rebuild quicker. Rmfl point system could work better if the points were adjusted slightly. 1st - 10 points. 2nd & 3rd - 12 points. 4th & 5th 15 points. 6th & 7th - 18 points . Bridge clubs -2 points, if they finished top they get 8. Meninge +2 but a max of 18.
Thoughts?
