Round 17 - Port v Glenelg @ Alberton - 2.10pm Sat 23/7/11

Postby GWW » Sun Jul 17, 2011 10:46 pm

Glenelg should be fresh after having the week off in round 16, whilst the Magpies took the journey to Perth for their Foxtel Cup Clash.

Port has perhaps been slightly more consistent than the Bays this year, and will be confident of a win. I think the week off will assist Kris Massie's side, and I'll tip Glenelg to win a close one by about 10 points.

This one will be a good game I reckon, could go either way.

I'll wait until I see the sides released before making a tip.

bays to steamroll a tiring port after halftime, if 'professional' teams can't travel back & perform well at their next match what hope does port have ? whose players presumably work or go to uni, bays by 10 goals plus
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Agree Bayman, AFL sides struggle the week after travelling West and they have far better recovery and training facilities than Port. Id expect scores to be tight for a half and then the bays to steamroll Port by 6 or 7 in second half

Port rested 2 of the prime movers in Summerton and Dolling. Listening to Tony Bamford on 5AA last night, he said except for a GF appearance, they pretty much got what they wanted out of the Foxtel Cup, team bonding, experience into the kids and some run into the legs of those that needed it.

I'm pretty confident there will be no ill effects.

I agree with the positives you highlight and will no doubt have longer term benefits, but Port were terrible after the Sydney trip - copped Norwood at Coopers on the friday night and got belted, albeit Norwood's performance that night was the best I have seen so far this season.

Fos Williams' ghost to visit the changerooms pre-match & will inspire Port to go the ecky thump, reducing the palindromes to a quivering mess. All over by 1/2 time, Port to ease in the 2nd half & will run out of interchange, due to the bruised fists. Port by 29 points.

You mean they treated the Foxtel Cup like a practice match?!? But I thought Port played in this contest because the club aspired to bigger and better things?!?

No idea who's going to win. Port seems to be going alright at home this year, this might account for any negatives due to travel. I'll pick a draw. 8)

Having trouble getting your head around "bigger and better things"? Why yes, I see why. You poor chaps think sacking/finding/sacking coaches it what it is all about.

Now now Booney, you know full well that the coaching revolutions at Alberton in recent years are at least on par with the Bays, if not better. 4 coaches in 4 years at one point was it not? Replace "sacking coaches" with "writing noughts on the balance sheet in red ink" and then I'll concur that the AFL hybrids are certainly achieving "bigger and better things".

S.Williams at the end of an 7 or 8 year stretch, the Knights "experiment" and the desperate plea to Jack to return with hopes he would "save us". Bar the Knights season I dont think you can compare our coaching turn over quite like the one at Jetty Road.

Knights the only one with knives to pull out his back and even then it was merely an insight into what the future was to hold for him. ;)
