Yes big stakes in the Pongy/Victor game this week. Pongy have the better form over recent weeksand will be confident of reversing the result from round 4 when Victor won by 12 goals. I remember someone asking the question after round 1 - who is Pongy likely to beat this year? Goes to show how long a season is, with Pongy now able to get their better players on the park.

If Pongy can get into the 5 they will have earnt it with their run home: Victor, McLaren, Creeks, Yank, Willunga and Strath. Victors run is a bit easier (in theory) with Pongy, Yank, McLaren, Creeks, Goolwa, Willunga.

Picking a premiership favourite is still tough with Creeks getting over Willunga at Willunga and then wooping Strath in the last 2 weeks.

Lot of expectation on him lately. How does he go carrying that weight?

He did well against us early in the year - got used as a link man throught the centre as we left him alone as he didnt get out of the square much. Didnt see the game saturday but I note Hannemann was best for Victor so maybe not so good this time!

Baulders was solid, not a spectacular day for him though. Great pressure game to watch. Compass very wasteful in front of goals. Counted about 7 out on the fulls going for goal. Thought Compass were going to get up in the last, well played Victor. Brokey seems to be ok spending the night in hospital after the sickening collision in middle of ground, running back with flight of the ball and got a fair knee in the back, fair play though.

Fair knee in the back???
Explain that one please???
If it wasn't for the league the game was being played in he would've got games! That VH player knew exactly what he was doing!
What was more disappointing was the fact that no Compass player really gave anything to support their team mate. But maybe I'm old school!!

We had a similar incident on the weekend where a player, whos known for being dirty (not tough) dropped his knees into our captains back who was on the ground. He also hooked one of our players in front of the club rooms & dropped him, which our player was rewarded a free straight away (which may have also saved him from being on the end of a few). What got me was that even though the umps saw & paid frees for both, he was not sent off?? Good to see his coach drag him straight away before things got out of hand. Funny thing was the player dragged only returned briefly before leaving the field with a groin injury/shitty shorts!

BB....I'll explain it for you. It was a marking contest where a bloke arrived a bit late, a free was paid as it should've been and everyone got on with the game. The reason none of the Compass blokes got involved is because they also realised that it was a solid contest but nothing more. The only league where there may have been a report is the AFL but this is country football! It was a gutsy effort by Brokey to back back into the contest but sometimes that is what happens when you do that. To say that Brokey or any other Compass bloke wouldn't have done the same thing in the circumstances is rubbish. Don't turn it into something it wasn't.

Exactly how I saw it Chestnut. Talking to some Compass lads Sat night and they said they would do the same thing. If the Victor guy had pulled out of the contest he would have rightly copped a serve from the coach/team mates.

Tips for Rd 13

WILLUNGA to wrap up top spot with a 20 pt win over Strath.

LANGHORNE CREEK to consolidate 2nd spot with another 87 pt win, this time over E.Bay.

VICTOR HARBOR to consolidate 5th spot with a nailbiting 4 pt win over Myponga/Sellicks.

MOUNT COMPASS to grind out a 22 pt win over McLaren.

YANKALILLA to demolish the hapless Goolwa/Port Eliot magpies by 92 pts.

Premiership market.

Willunga $2.00 Fave by virtue of retaining top spot and double chance. Have a poor record over L.Creek in minor round games over many years but seem to win the ones that count. FINALS.

L.Creek $2.60 clear 2nd fave. Showed what they can do when they get close to their full team on the park as they did against Strath. The key is to hold the team together injury wise for the rest of the season and find a way to overcome the Willunga hoodoo in finals.

Strath $4.20 Should hold the double chance and still a genuine contender but will need their full team back on the park.

Yankalilla $9.00 Only other realistic chance on form but it is so so tough to come from the elimination final to win a flag which they will probably have to do unless Strath falter and give up 3rd spot. Yank did come from 5th spot in 1985 to defeat the Creeks in the GF so it can be done.

Victor Harbor $26.00 been too inconsistent to be rated a genuine contender although they did beat the Creeks which Willunga have failed to do.

Myponga/Sellicks $51.00 Leaving their run too late and have a tough run home but if they manage to sneak into the five may be capable of causing an upset or two.

Hard to argue with your tips or the flag market jj. If the weather holds up the margins at Goolwa and McLaren might be greater.

I'm going:

Goolwa v Yank by 115pts
Creek v Bays by 77pts
Victor v Pongy by 15
McLaren v Compass by 50
Willunga v Strath by 30

WOW - what the lowdown on S Hunt that kicked 6 last week, never heard of him before?.

Spud Hunt is a small forward, fringe A grader, who i thought had more chance of winning lotto than kicking 6 in the A grade! Good lad though.

Yank A's up by 98 points at the start of final term. Good win by Yank B's by 2 points in a really good game of footy.

 Well aware you knew who it was FOD! By the way were the user names "Old Full Back" or "8 Time Premiership Full Back" taken? ;) 8)

Devo from yesterdays result. 3 goals 14 after quarter time isn't going to win you many games. Victor were devasting on our turnovers, most of there goals started from there defence. Iljecsen was great in the first half, Jefferies for Pongy did a good job on him after that. Biggest crowd i've seen at Victor for probably 10 years. Hopefully its the start of the mid to late 90's rivalry.
However we've come along way in the past 6 weeks and can match it with the top sides. Tough run home but if we cause a few upsets, who knows....

lol - Nah - "Build it and they will come" was pretty apt for an old fart that wishes he could still play. 8 premierships - I wish!

I'll admit I was pretty nervous given Pongy's form, big forwards and knowing Brown was out - but our backline was fantastic. Josh Bridge superb - I dont think he lost a contest all day. I felt like we were in control pretty much all day, despite the scoring shots being pretty even in the end.

Yeah it was a good crowd - very vocal too with plenty of confounding decisions to fire everyone up. We do seem to have a good following this year, with lots of people putting in great off field work.

We will both have to continue to improve to really trouble the top 4 - but we have both shown we can do it. Our chance starts this week, with the chance to grab equal footing on the ladder with Yank if we can get over them.

Any reports on the other games anyone? Looks like Strath started well - leading till half time and werent that far out of it at 3/4 but then only kicked 1 point in the last. Willunga's odds continue to shorten.

Strath did start well, S.Elliott pulled out Sat morning which didnt help as Cousins, Button, Duffield and Watson are all out aswell. Eagleton returned and the boys had a real crack, Willunga were ordinary but did enough to get the points. Once fully fit expect strath to be back up with their early season form!

That's Willunga, can play ordinary and still win by 7 goals. It's called cruise control...
Willunga will be very hard to beat come september especially if guys like Guitnik can hit "Thunder" form & fly like the "Birds"!
