No, proof positive that it has sharpened up the SANFL approach to the carnival by playing these lads against each other, forcibly.

I still don't believe it is the best thing for individual development of footballers at SANFL clubs, which is my main interest in the whole debate.

smac, what do you mean when you talk about the SANFL playing these lads against each other?

Genuine question.

The restriction on playing lads at a grade that will challenge and develop them (in some cases, not all) can't be good, IMO

Do you mean the restricted number of games in the U16 season?

Or the restriction on them playing senior footy?

Many of the lads that are playing in the U16 state team have played in the U18 comp, in fact some (e.g. Luke Dunstan) didn't play any U16 games for the Eagles this year. He has played U18s and even a reserve game. I can't see how you can say the lads have been restricted. If anything some of the elite players are only held back by being forced to play for their College. It's not the SANFL system/pathway holding them back

Yes well done to Aishy. Of course his father Andrew only played about 90 games so no father-son for crows :D
