Just beating the third place side who are on a 2 game losing streak on your home deck is pretty special at the Bay these days. ;)

When you put it into context whufc it was pretty special. Season on the line, new coach, in front all day, Eagles hit the lead with minutes to go, captain kicks winning goal after laying a great tackle.

Go troll elsewhere.

Settle down i just havent heard of too many SANFL teams singing the club song on the oval after a minor round victory.

Well...its not all beer & premierships at most clubs in the SANFL.

I thought it was a good move by Mass to do something to help galvanise the club. We've been a bit fractured this season.
We looked gone when Eagles hit the front in the last, but the boys dug deep & pinched it back & held on.
Us faithful on the hill loved it, the kids loved it & the players looked like they got a kick out of it aswell.

So.. no, we didnt win our 10th flag in row, we're just trying to get our season back on track. ;)
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

So having your direct opponent kick 4 goals on you (out of a total of 10), that's a good display is it?

Not the time to start slashing wrists I would have thought.

Don't think we are being harsh at all.
The coaching staff are struggling at the moment to come up with a plan other than grinding out a win, which will not work week in week out.

It should work on paper attitude isn't going to get us there.
Sometimes back to basics football should be the call.

I can't recall when we have used the centre corridor at all since the last game at the Bay, because that is perceived a risk.

Well if we hug the wings all game one would think that the opposition will soon work it out.
Need to mix it up and for the love of Christ maintain a forward structure.

Postby 85 WAS A GOOD YEAR » Sun Jul 10, 2011 11:17 pm

People often talk about Captain's goals, but today's by Ben Mules was terrific.

It wasn't a tiggy-touchwood free kick given in they dying minutes of the game.
It was a free kick, justifiably earned, after a great tackle put on Treeby in Glenelg's goal square.

Having witnessed our forwards miss so called "easy" shots at goal during important games in recent years, the pressure was on to show everyone, that every team member is capable of kicking goals, no matter what position they are named in on the magnet board.
Ben Mules was up to it, kicked truly, and put us in front.

Ben Mules is a great leader, and knew what had to be done.
Although first and formost a defender, he instinctively did what needed to be done - the tackle, then the goal.
When players do what come instictively, truly Great things can happen.
It inspired his team mates to hold their belief, do the 1% smothers, hold their tackles & hold onto the lead.
We did, and it was Great :D

Hard to know really. We went through a few periods like this last year.
Perhaps Powell and Cica being a year older.
Welsh at times played some okay footy, and Hentschel was good in the Bays final, whereas this year we have had nothing from Tiller or Hentschel.
End of last year we had Rimmington and Cheep finally finding some form, agitating opponents without going over the line and kicking a few goals to complement our main mid-fielders. Rimmingtoin has been okay and we've lost Cheep.
Losing some players to the AFL, more the specific type of player, in Thompson, Brodie Smith and Polec who could break from half back or the wing with pace and kick over a line. Obviously we've had the first two a little bit this year, but we haven't really done anything to replace this style of player.
The last five players I mentioned were probably the quickest in a side lacking a bit of pace.

Onto the game though;

Thought we controlled the game pretty well for 3 quarters, but in the last lost touch in the midfield, and the LPR's got a roll. Great pressure by the lads in the last 5 minutes resulted in the goal to Mulesy (who's form is returning), and some great acts of desperation especially by the young un's (here's looking at you Snooky).

Todd Grima is "Mr Fix It". The real barometer of the team. If this dude is on song and up and running we'll go OK for the rest of the season. Like him when he goes back and his voice and support is second to none. Thought Kirk up forward worked well. Would like to see the set up start like that every week. He's a big bastard and hard to match up on, and with Sammy, Curro & Toddy playing well done back makes it easier to leave him up forward.

No Fuss. Welcome back. Best game from him since his return from injury. Makes so many intercepts down back, and has a real cool head on him. We missed him badly when he was injured, more so then any other player IMO. He's just one of those blokes who does the job, no one knows who he is, but at the end of the game they say that Number 47 did OK....

Trembath looked good today, kicked a beauty in the first, and showed promise playing more on the half forward flank, he'll stay in the team for a while I hope. Tenace was good in the first half, faded a tad in the latter stages but would be better for the run. Looking forward to Murph coming back in as his grunt work in the centre is vital, and we could've done with him in the last.

Overall encouraging signs, thought our skills were mostly pretty good, controlled the ball and hit targets.

Reasonable crowd, 95% Glenelg supporters though, which made the atmosphere a tad off. **** knows how the Eagles supposedly have more members then what we do yet have so few **** rock up to games.

Bland club they are.....

Darryl Smith "bagged" the Bays too for singing the song on the ground on the RPH wrap this morning as well as stating that Mules got a "lucky" free kick given similar other frees were not paid that way during the earlier parts of the game. Clearly Smith had his "neutral" commentary hat on yesterday!

I can understand why Bednall wrote that dreck, but it simply reaffirms his reputation as a wannabe-journo who is too easily satisfied by taking cheap pot-shots.
