Thank you Bays.
Left us 3 games clear plus a healthy percentage.
Mentioned it at half time, the Eagles play a negative, defensive style and are never going to kick big scores. Until they change their mindset and style they arent going anywhere

well it was an entertaining game albeit the skill level was down with plenty of mistakes made by all players & they had a very strong cross breeze which didn't help & while glenelg had the ascendancy for most of the day the eagles were never out of the contest such was the tenacity & ferocity of the match from both teams, i thought the 'turning point' for the eagles was the mark not paid to kirkby late in the third & wwt capatilised from that moment & had all the momentum, wwt finally hit the lead & could have got further in front bar for poor kicking & then glenelg went forward a few times without success then a wwt player got the ball in the goalsquare tried dodging benny mules & got caught htb dead, (which i think was the last free paid for the match) the next 8-10 minutes was frantic, desperate football

massie took the players in front of snouts hill to sing the club song to share the song with everyone after the match......i thought it was a fantastic idea so everyone feels part of it

young snook is starting to show poise & nouse in his footy & it paid off a couple of times in that last frantic 10 minutes

surprisingly glenelg are now a chance to snatch 3rd given the fact that we do not play norwood or central again in the minor round this year

parry would have been the difference but he didn't use his head, well he did & that's why he wasn't out there
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I'd like to know why the Eagles didn't have anyone start inside their forward 50 for the first 3 quarters? What a crap brand of football to watch. The Eagles players tried hard and when they finally sorted out their forward set up in the last quarter they did ok. Glenelg deserved the win and the Eagles now join the rest in the fight for a finals spot.

The Bays are back in business ... long, long way to go but at least they're back in the hunt.

Leigh Treeby the best player for the Bays ...

Well done Glenelg better team on the day and the margin flattered us.

I am so sick and tired of the way football is heading these days

Maybe its due to the young coaches coming through.

My wish list:

A true Full forward
A true centre half forward

A team that plays the game how it should be played.

A coaching panel that will treat the game as it should rather than a tactical war or a chess game.

Where its a positive to back yourself and the skill of your teammates over the emphasis of taking no risk , better to not make a mistake than to be creative.

To throw out the collection and analysis of statistics and let the boys show their skills.

We are going to lose the spirit of this game and just turn it into WW1 trench warfare.

The SANFL is turning into the AFL , no flair , no backing the ability of the players.

What I witnessed today from both teams is the destruction of this game in how it should be played.

Other than the final 10 minutes when the Bays nearly threw it away , I was totally bored and actually thought of making my way home.

Rant over.

A season defining win (I hope).

I thought Mass was taking the boys down to Snouts Hill to give the faithful the thumbs up but, then they formed the circle and sang the club song with all the Louts. Stirring stuff.

I’ll pick your rant where you left off OWW.

I mentioned last week that Godden’s coaching style has avoided scrutiny for far too long. Put simply, it is complete rubbish. The fact we are sitting 3rd has disguised the fact that all our wins (except against the Bays earlier in the season) have been by a whisker. Most of these matches could easily have gone the other way and we’d be sitting bottom. Now the luck is starting to go against us and we will be lucky to make the finals.

Godden has employed an ultra-defensive style of gameplan that means we will never kick more than 10 goals. What that means is that every single team that we play comes into the match knowing that they are a chance of winning no matter where they are on the ladder. All it takes is for the umpires to give a couple of bad decisions that result in goals to the other side and the match quickly goes against us.

Our game is best around chipping sideways, backwards and holding the ball up which gives the opposition far too much time to get back. What happened to going long and direct and backing your players? He is afraid of taking a risk. Against the Bays he had plenty of scope to make a couple of changes to enhance our prospects of kicking a goal e.g McKenzie to the midfield/forward; Redden to stay PERMANENTLY within the 50m arc so there is a big body there to take a grab. Unfortunately this did not develop and we lost the game.
Godden is employed as a full-time coach. Personally I think this is a mistake. When you have too much time to think about the game you come up with all these crazy strategies that are far too complicated and difficult to initiate. Each week we members receive the coaching report from Godden in which he constantly states that the team is still not playing the footy style he is after. Well here’s thought. Maybe a) the players don’t or can’t understand your style because its too complicated or b) the style you are after does not stack up against the gameplan of other clubs. We are more than halfway through the season. If we haven’t got it by now we aren’t going to. Truly, he reminds me a bit of Robert Pyman. The only question is how long do we give him to turn it around?

I think the Board has got to have a quiet word to Godden as his boring, negative style is damaging support for the club. I went to the footy with five of my mates who all support the eagles. Two of them left 10mins into the second quarter saying they were bored of the diabolical standard of the eagles (albeit they weren’t too impressed by the Bays either). One of them left halfway in the third quarter. None of these guys are eagles members but have been considering it in recent times. However I don’t think the club has any chance of signing these guys or others if they can’t play an entertaining brand.

That is my rant.

Without trying to be dramatic, its probably time that WWT gave some thought to calling in ex Woodville Coach John Reid for a mid season review of the entire club, or to begin some work on an end of season review now. Its obvious to many that as it stands this season the club has taken a step backwards. If its swept under the carpet it may result in more problems, if things can be addressed and dealt with before the finals are underway, all its going to do is increase their chances of winning it.

Clearly Godden is not going to be happy with a review being undertaken during the season, yet despite the fact that its the SANFL competiton, its evolving rapidly and a very high standard is the minimum to compete with the other clubs, I think WWT would be best served by taking some action to address some of these issues before it goes too far, despite todays result, WWT are a strong side with more potential than most to lift and to do well this season.

We did also give Norwood a fair touch-up earlier in the year, but then they also played pretty defensively that day.
Not going to stick the boots into Godden.
The only thing I will is that it appears SANFL footy is now turning around after some pretty defensive games over the last few years. Apart from Sturt who have their own issues, the two worst teams in the league at the moment are us and Westies, the two playing the most defensive footy, and we've seen how well West can play went they want to be attacking. Said last week the South v Port game was entertaining enough, as was the North v Norwood game yesterday, simply because the teams were trying to push forward despite the conditions.
Believe our highest score is only 97 points this year.
Perhaps, though, we need to start looking forward a bit more, and wonder how we are going to regenerate our list. Are we a realistic chance of winning the flag this year with our list now Hentschel is gone? Cica and Powell probably have one more year, won't be too long before McKenzie, Parry and Grocke are on the wrong side of 30. Need to really get some game time into blokes like Bately, Rayner, Sutcliffe and maybe a couple others or else we might really find ourselves in real trouble in a couple of years.

I can't believe how harsh you guys are ... you got within a bee's appendage of making last year's GF, and are currently sitting in 3rd place, even after losing the last 3 games.

You also nearly stole the game today when perhaps at the start if the last you had no right to.

Not the time to start slashing wrists I would have thought.

When you put it into context whufc it was pretty special. Season on the line, new coach, in front all day, Eagles hit the lead with minutes to go, captain kicks winning goal after laying a great tackle.

I thought Cicolella's effort in the last quarter was pathetic, especially his diving antics. Seemed to be bad blood between him and Toddy G. would have love to have seen Toddy G knock him one behind play in that last quarter...ahwell take the win

Don't think we are being harsh at all.
The coaching staff are struggling at the moment to come up with a plan other than grinding out a win, which will not work week in week out.

It should work on paper attitude isn't going to get us there.
Sometimes back to basics football should be the call.

I can't recall when we have used the centre corridor at all since the last game at the Bay, because that is perceived a risk.

Well if we hug the wings all game one would think that the opposition will soon work it out.
Need to mix it up and for the love of Christ maintain a forward structure.
