I'm sure we'll get used to it. There was probably the same uproar when they went to Red and Black and became the Redbacks. I think in lots of ways it is a good thing to distinguish Twenty20 from the longer forms of the game. As long as the money produced filters back to maintain the quality of the longer form of the game and gets fed to grass roots cricket to keep the game healthy overall.

From Foxsports.com.au

New Twenty20 Big Bash league to feature teams in pink, orange and purple as tradition is abandoned

Conservative cricket types might wish they were colour blind when the inaugural Big Bash League makes its debut.

The players are to be kitted out in pink, orange, purple and a lot of garish hues in between.

The revamped domestic Twenty20 competition will also feature teams in electric green and teal, Cricket Australia (CA) has advised.

The colours for the eight teams were released on Wednesday, with the Sydney Sixers to wear pink.

Their cross-town rivals Sydney Thunder will wear a near-fluorescent shade of electric green.

The Hobart Hurricanes will step out in purple, the Perth Scorchers in orange and Brisbane Heat in teal.

More traditional colours have been selected for the Adelaide Strikers (blue), Melbourne Renegades (red) and Melbourne Stars (green).

CA's general manager of marketing services Mike McKenna said the confirmation of colours and teams names was a milestone for the competition.

But McKenna said there remained a "mountain of work" to be done before the tournament starts in December, not least finalising private investment.

"We have got a meeting with all key parties from CA and the state associations scheduled which will look to finalise this issue and allow teams to continue discussions with potential investors," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

"As far as the allocation of players is concerned, we have come a long way towards working out the model by which players will be signed by teams.

"We have been clear from the outset that we want an even spread of talent to give each team a chance to be successful."

What do you make of this step by Cricket Australia? Did the Big Bash need an overhaul? Join the discussion by leaving a comment below.

Adelaide strokers! Not many signings.

I'm not too keen on the new format but I guess they are trying to capitalize on the IPL success. By making it regional etc they can have 2 melb and 2 syd teams
I won't be barracking for the home team.
Perth Scorchers are hitting it though. They have media releases of signing weekly lately.
With that... a slight deflection to the next topic!

Heres the Adelaide Now article
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/ipad/sala ... 6090224011

"ADELAIDE Strikers boss Darren Berry says the Big Bash salary cap has torn his champion Twenty20 unit.
South Australian director of cricket Jamie Cox's recruiting strategy has come under scrutiny after losing star Twenty duo Dan Christian to Brisbane Heat and tearaway Shaun Tait to Melbourne Renegades.

The Strikers had to move swiftly to shore up dumped Australian batsman Callum Ferguson's signature after the exit of his fellow internationals and must today fork out at least $100,000 for West Indian allrounder Kieron Pollard. Tait, 28, has been left confused by a melancholy exit following a decade at Adelaide Oval.

Asked if the Strikers had courted Tait, Berry said: "No we didn't put an offer to Tait."
"Did we speak to Shaun? We did. Did we have a strategy to secure Shaun Tait? Absolutely we did. "I am very disappointed that Shaun Tait is not here. That deal was apparently done a fair while ago and was out of our control."

However, Tait's management last night emphasised no dialogue or contractual approach had been received from the Strikers regarding a Big Bash contract before joining the Renegades this week.

Any strategy to keep Tait would appear flawed without contact with the super slinger, who told The Advertiser: "I didn't speak to the SACA officially about anything with contracts. It was a bit weird the way it worked out but that is the way it goes.
"At the start when it was announced I would have stayed in Adelaide as that is my home."

Berry declined to detail how Tait's signature was prioritised.
"I don't think we have to explain why there was no contract," said Berry.
.......
"It's been a bit disappointing," said Tait, still scheduled to lead the Redbacks' Champions League attack during September in India.

"But what can you do, you just have to move on."

West Indian superstar Kieron Pollard has signed with the Adelaide Strikers.

http://www.cricketsa.com.au/Article/NewsDetail.aspx?p=338&id=1575

In a major coup for the local outfit, Polly confirmed overnight that he would return to Adelaide for another summer, and bring his talents for this season’s KFC Big Bash League.

Arguably the world’s best T20 player, Polly is keen to fire up with his new team.

“I love the relaxed environment in Adelaide. I travel with my girlfriend and little boy and it's important for me to bring them to a safe and welcoming place. It's easy to get about, to the beaches and the people are friendly,” he said.

“Although it will be a bit different, I feel I'll be able to relate strongly to the Strikers. We've been successful, and I've enjoyed my cricket when I've been in Adelaide. The management has gone out of their way for me and I want to continue to repay their faith in me.”

Currently playing for Somerset in the English T20 competition, Polly will later this year travel to Bangladesh and India with his West Indian team-mates, before heading to Adelaide in December.

“I'm really happy to be returning to Australia. It's a great place and the new BBL will be an exciting new competition. I know it's a bit of a different set up but in the past couple of years South Australia have done very well, and I'm returning because I want the new Adelaide team to continue that success,” Polly said.

“The crowds in Australia are also really good. I love playing in matches where there's a real buzz in the air.”
Strikers coach Darren “Chuck” Berry said he was thrilled to secure his “number 1 target”.

“Polly is a genuine match-winner and a real crowd favorite. Our buys love having him here and what he brings to the group is something special that you just can’t measure,” Chuck said.

Strikers so far: Dan “Doc” Harris, Cameron “Borgy” Borgas, Callum “Ferg” Ferguson, Nathan “Willie” Lyon, Michael “Maxy” Klinger, Aiden “Blizz” Blizzard, Aaron “Obi” O’Brien, Kane “Richo” Richardson, Tom “Coops” Cooper, Kieron “Polly” Pollard.

Couldn't they tee up something better? What a disgraceful way to earn quick bucks off the corpse of our domestic game. Tee Ball is the Sex Pistols of sport. Don't you feel you've been cheated?

in all seriousness, reckon i will follow the strikers next year. Always a good night at AO, i reckon they will get similar crowds as last summer.
Having said that, i would have definitely prefered the BigBash as it was - oh well.

I won't be attending any games. Cricket Australia have lost their way to the quick buck. The number of state contracts have decreased to help pay for this. The test side is a shambles at present we need to be developing the next crop of superstars.

Crowds in England are on the decline, Indian sides are not making the returns expected. Yet in Australia we want to destroy over 100 years of state v state

Only cricket I will be attending this year will be the odd day of shield cricket plus internationals
