Having said that Damien(ledge) King dominates for years and never won a medal. Having played footy with ledge I thought he was by far the best player. Anyone know what he is doing now

Ledge is an absolute superstar very unlucky not to win the medal! He is helping out his brother with the under 11s I think just with umpiring etc..... Such a quality guy who u can't say a bad word about

So there doesn't seem to be too many players interested in the Country Carnival going by what was written in this weeks Final Siren. You can't blame the players, no-one will be suspended or fined for not turning up. And after the hard fought slog fest on the heavy grounds last round I reckon every player deserves a weekend off. Also given how close the comp is this season every club will be using the break to it's advantage in preparing it's players for the next round.

Sporting Pulse had IB with NO SCORE  Not heaps surprised, but it's made it a hot race and given Blackwood another chance to finish second.
Lofty are decimated by injury, losing 5 before this week's game and by the sounds of it there was a broken collarbone and hammy done at hahndorf. That's seriously gonna make the next month hard to even hang in to the 5.

Yep Weeksy did his other collar bone, Cutts did a hammy and Healy did an ankle. We had one on the bench for the second half and none on the bench for the last quarter. Injuries are part of the game but hopefully we can have a bit more luck in the last block of the season!

The difference between top & bottom in both leagues really needs to
Be sorted.
Hills football is the laughing stock of country footy at the moment.
It may have more to do with Country Div. but both Div. comes under the HFL

I agree Brook, the HFL has developed a lable as the worst country league, were it is only really cally (being the worst country team). One could argue that the top side in central could mix it with alot of the stronger teams in country SA.

There has been talk of many solutions the main two being Promotion-delegation or a 3 div comp.

I personaly think that the 3 div comp wont fix a thing, it will simply mean less clubs will be complaining about being stuck playing callington!

They should just let cally play C grade and leave the comp as is, but with the top team in country going up and the bottom team in central coming down each year. Would add a link again between the two comp's and bring another aspect to the HFL.

Turn it up YP. Hills are probably the strongest country league in this state. Sure they have a couple of weakies in Country but look at other leagues and you will find there is always an easybeat.

Heard the same story about Birdwood staying where they are next year. No-one can blame them. Have a look at the size of Birdwood compared to Mt Barker! And please don't go on about the promotion/relegation system. Sure it works in Amateur League where they have about 70 teams but isn't really suited to the Hills competition.

Are you using the point system in your league?
If so is everyone on the same points or is it varied to allow the
competition to even out over a number of years.

Everyone enjoys the game more when you are winning. I have spoken to a Birdwood player and he has confirmed that they have already lodged a request to go back to Central Div if they make the GF in country.

Yes the points are being used with the amount of points allocated being based on the average finishing position in prior 3 seasons in A grade.

No, this will not result in the competition evening out. $$$ will always drive this.

True, to a point. If you look at the top 2 teams and the bottom two teams' spend, would it be much different? I think it forces smarter spending.

i agree in relation to TV. they're still spending big on players such as ellis (x2), jaques, neely, kite, etc. probably their total spend is not much different to uraidla and mt barker.

not sure about bridgy though. can't see them spending much as most of their team is local 18-21 y.o.

Only each club knows what they spend. The ACTUAL question was 'has it evened up the comp?', we answered that. But if there's going to be another 8 weeks of whinging on here about player payments, shut this thread down
