The powers that be rate Him very highly at Centrals, both Him & Waldhuter. We will lose both of Them to The AFL next year.

Sorry, I meant where does he fit in terms of the youngest ever debutant?

I actually think the same about Swan Reach.
$8 for garlic bread - three triangle slices, about the same size as if you cut a slice of bread from a Tip Top loaf.
$2.50 for a loaf of bread? $3 for a jar of garlic? $3 for a tub of marg? They're doing well there.
I reckon a serve of fries is about $8 as well. A schnitter with gravy was $18.50.

Anyway, well off topic.

I think he is the 2nd youngest ever mate.

Menzel was born in late September, debuting at 16 years of age.

Shannon Hurn also debuted at 16 if memory serves correct, but he was born in early September.

Not sure if there has been anyone younger than Shannon Hurn, maybe Dogs Historian Robert Laidlaw will know?

If you hadn't seen the ladder, you could be forgiven for thinking that was a wooden spoon contest on Sunday.

Both sides were well below their best. For Central, that may have been a one off, unfortunately it is becoming a bit too regular for the Eagles lately.

The efforts were not bad at all, but the skill level was poor. Both teams fumbled - I can't believe how many times Central spilled the ball in the first half. I also couldn't understand the torpedo's from Sansbury when he was kicking out with the wind. It was amateur league stuff and the Eagles should have made much more of it. The Eagles were so slow moving the ball out of the back line and just couldn't find anything up forward besides the odd occasion Grocke could beat several opponents.

I thought Cicolella, Day and Grocke were all ok.

The umpires were very quick on the whistle. The decisions may not have been completely wrong but the decision to award all minor discretions made for a frustrating afternoon of watching.

The Eagles were rated highly based on the fact they played well in finals last year and they recruited some former AFL players who would strengthen the team. At this stage, this has been a disaster. Especially given the recruiting meant Todd Miles was told he would not be needed (Tiller, Bock, Hoban and Redden would take any roles he had in the team - aaaarrggh). Miles would be more than handy at the moment.

Our former AFL recruits:

Tiller - is this really the same guy that whoever at the Eagles obviously saw play AFL/VFL and thought would be good? I think they gave us his dud twin brother. Currently holding down a position at Full Back in the reserves.
Hall - went away to Freo as a 17 year old skinny, but quick, clean and skillful player. Came back as a skinny and error ridden player who has lost the composure he showed as a youngster. He is playing a tough position (small forward) so hopefully improves and gets some of that confidence back that he showed as a junior.
Kite - blew away with the wind and the string snapped and we never got him back.
Raymond - I actually think he has been ok, but is currently playing reserves so obviously not going as well as was expected of him.
Hentschel - full time at the Eagles now and it was more hope than anything that he would contribute on the field. Can't blame him at all for his failing body and it is great that he has given it a go, but the results are not looking promising.
Bock - showed nothing as a 2nd ruckman to Parry and has been unable to push his claims ahead of Hoban, which says something...

The other thing that has hurt this year is having different AFL players come in and out each week. None yet have played the 5 games to qualify for finals and none have been able to have a consistent positive effect on the team (like Salter has in the past for instance). I reckon at the start of the year Salter, Smith, Thompson and Petrenko would have been given a fair chance to qualify, but at the moment it is looking unlikely.

With the reserves also struggling it is looking rather bleak at Eagle land at the moment. Thankfully it is only July and we somehow are still in 3rd spot, so there is nothing to do but look ahead with the players we have and formulate something that will get some bite back to the team. It will be a massive challenge for Godden, but there is hope!

Nice breakdown Aerie , I agree with most of your comments and you are right on to start to ask some questions re. recruits , but the season is not done by a long way , however this week against the Bays is looking almost must win if we are to remain legitimate contenders . :)

Im surprised no one has had a go at the umpires. Must have been a record for "High contact" frees.

Might have been a record but i think most of the frees were there so it doesnt matter how many are given.

I think it was a sign of the players form rather than the umpires form. The game was full of mistakes both decision making and skills.

Personally i thought the umpires did a fairly good job, i didnt really notice them.

Reading the stats in the paper, how did we ever stay in the game? I knew there were large patches the Eagles dominated, but they had so much more of the ball and so many more tackles. Especially given both Obst and Havelberg seemed way off the pace all day long.

"But we played a very good footy club which is better than us. They know how to win, have got better depth and better structures so we're not as good as them, that's the bottom line." Eagles coach Michael Godden said.

I hate this negative talk from the coach. I assume "structures" must be a magical thing in modern day football because it seems all the rage with everyone - but one thing I always rated with Fuller was his willingness to go one on one, even if it meant having 7 or 8 forwards to combat the loose men in defence.

There were times yesterday when the Eagles should have just gone one on one and backed themselves to win the contest. This would have resulted in; (a) more players forward to help Grocke in attack when we were kicking with the wind and (b) someone standing on Sansbury when he roamed forward to kick the winning goal.

Playing a "very good footy club which is better than us" is the worse excuse in the book.

If I didn't believe we could win every week I wouldn't go. If I didn't go it would make no difference but if any of the players or coaches don't have that belief in themselves and each other then they shouldn't be out there.

Actually, I prefer the umpies protecting the player going for the ball and giving them the benefit of any doubt.

That was an AMAZING win. Young players like Dunne and reichert stood up for us when it mattered.... and Eddie Sansbury waited for the right moment to kick the traditional winning goal.

I am surprised that anyone could think it looked like teams lower down the ladder -- they always surrender when Centrals hit in hard like that. Full credit to WWT for also hitting in hard.

That was the first time I have seen Hoban -- he was quite a pest. I cannot believe WWT supporters are bagging him!
