Round 14 - Port v South Post Match Review

Nothing better than being written off by 90+ % of the SAFooty "experts" and then winning anyway!

South very aggressive in attack today with plenty of speed to go down the middle, Fuller backs the players to play attacking footy down the middle, long may it continue!

As predicted, South played in front all day & won the game. Simple footy in wet weather.

I have to say that you did actually predict it! -

If it's as wet & crappy as forecast, South will handle this much better, too quick. South to win by 7 points, if not wet & slippery, Port by 33 points.

Would have to be a record crowd for the travelling panther supporters yesterday, even had somewhat of a cheersquad on the outer.. must have been there before they headed to footy park to watch the cows play..

Is amazing the difference in the south team that was there yesterday and the 1 from a month ago..

No interest in the cows mate ...but it was great to see some supporters get out to alberton yesterday . We are a passionate lot us south supporters

Very pleasing.

After being so bad for so long, it's good to get a few wins.

Not meaning that we're going to play finals, not meaning that we are a premiership threat this year or next, but we are improving.

That is the main thing.

Good game considering the conditions. Port worked hard, but South worked harder, particularly in the last three quarters. Great work by Liddle, Cross and Stribling in the middle; Wundke excellent again with other very good contributions up forward from Rolfe and Cockshell.

South may have won only twelve times at Alberton, but four of those have come in the last ten seasons (and three of them have been on TV).

Not very happy with the result. After belting Westies and having Sturt at Unley to come we should have been looking to a 3 game winning streak and consolidating 5th spot. Instead we drop to 7th and need to beat a revitalised Sturt to stay in the race. Very costly loss this could be.

More so when we had control of the game half way through the third quarter and stopped.

A couple of late 3rd qtr centre clearances that south won certainly hurt us booney.. think it was Maric who was rucking, won the taps but chose to hit behind in what looked like a set play. All good when u win the ball but seeing we didnt and the conditions, i would have thought hitting to adavantage would have been the better play.

Should have been looking at having a 5 point break on glenelg and south, now need to win and hope those 2 lose to go back in the 5

I couldn't believe how many times Port players simply jumped on a pack or player and were rewarded with holding the ball decisions. The one on Thewils was a disgrace. I can't recall us getting one!!

Very happy with the result and good to get two in a row on the telly, makes it easier to try and persuade my 7 year old that he should follow the Panthers when he sees them win a couple.

As I'd said a couple of times previously, against Norwood for a half you could really see some good signs about South .. They played with spirit, and have good size, strength and pace about them, and if they could start putting 4 quarters together they can take it right up to anyone.

Not looking forward to meeting them again on their home deck.

Don't have a great issue with the endeavour of our players. They've developed a game-style of quick movement and throwing the ball around to cater to their strengths and simply didn't adapt to the conditions as well as South did. Probably a little understandable as South probably have a little more experience playing in that muck.

And for the first time, I think I can say Tony Bamford was genuinely outcoached. Fuller had South using the link man all day and Port had no answer.

You could be right there, i saw Noarlunga oval on Saturday and whilst the water sat on top of the surface it was far from muddy...

I meant the wind and rain. Take out the paranoia and surely you must admit that Noarlungar is more susceptable to those conditions than Alberton.

Alberton a stinky bog? not sure about that.....Noarlunga is a top surface though, but if you cant kick the footy 50m flat as a tack your useless at that ground, the wind is shocking!

The surface at Alberton IMO has improved since the power took over the facility, mind you there probably wasnt a ground on sat that was in great nick!

Hardly the worst in the SANFL though

The Power dont run the groundstaff though valleys.. yes more work gets put into the ground because of the "higher standard" of player etc training on the ground almost everyday of the year.

And they are the cause of all the extra lines that get marked on the oval that annoy the sh!t out of me, especially when its a TV game
