A dog I once had loved the product of a Fig tree in the back yard,
For some reason the figs fermented on the tree - I suspected the tree had some form of fungal or bacterial infection that induced this alcohol production.

Watching an 80Kg Irish Wolfhound trying to climb a tree after he'd eaten all the low fruit had its cool aspects.
But I was concerned about, "What do you do with a drunken Wolfhound?"

One of my dogs licked a cane toad just over a month ago. After it stopped frothing at the mouth, and giving it heaps of water, it proceeded to sniff the wall for 10 mins, and then try to dig a hole to china. The dog seemed to enjoy itself too. Was pretty funny when the missus stopped freaking out about it.

I will add also the same dog loved the rotten red grapes we got one year from the neighbours vine. She wasn't happy when we collected them all and threw them out.

Couldn't find the article online but in Saturday's paper there was an article about how the penalties for possession have been increased by this SA Labor government. John Rau announced that the ingredients in Kronic have been added to the state's controlled drug list.

Manufacturing or trafficking a large quantity of Kronic will now attract maximum penalties of $500,000 or life imprisonment. Sale or possession of synthetic cannabinoids will attract penalties of up to $50,000 and 10 years in prison. Selling it to children or within a school zone will attract up to a $1 million fine or life imprisonment.

Gotta love the Laura Norder crowd

Apparently Vic police raided a concert because there was nudity and the leader singer used the 'f' word. It is 2011 isn't it?

That might have something to do with their new laws against 'offensive language':

So now that it's illegal, does this mean the demand for the drug decreases?

Doubt it. In fact with the media saturation it's received it's likely that demand will increase, especially for those looking to circumvent piss tests.

Effectively, all these new laws have done is pushed the drug underground, pushed prices up and, due to a complete lack of quality control, possibly increased the chances that inferior/dangerous constituents are being substituted into the drug.

The funny thing is, there is a huge push in the USA to decriminalize/legalize cannabis.

Another thing. A new "blend' has been released in the USA which doesn't contain the ingredients that have been banned.

Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne today announced that the Ministry of Health is recalling one of the most popular brands of the synthetic cannabis product Kronic because contains the prescription medicine phenazepam.

Mr Dunne said finding phenazepam - an anti-anxiety and anti-convulsion drug - in the Kronic product, Pineapple Express, again confirms the dangers of suppliers putting unregulated drugs on the market where their safety is unproven.

I don't consider myself one of the latte sipper do - gooder set (I never vote ALP or Green), but I am glad this has been banned, I detest Mike Rann but he has done the right thing. I was a great believer in the harmlessness of marijuana, but I know of at least 6 people, who have suffered serious mental illness through that harmless product. In one case a very promising career in education ruined. So my view on THC and THC-like products is pretty negative.

No proof it causes mental illness mick, but there is evidence it can make symptons of mental illness show before they would naturally occur. Do you know what other drugs these 6 were taking? How much they were smoking?

The other fact you aren't considering is, modern day marijuana is very potent. Hydroponic dope has a THC level around 20-25%. It is grown like this to make money. Old school outdoor marijuana is around 5% THC. The stuff you would of grown up with. The stuff that people smoked and giggled and listened to 70's music on.

Kronic is the equivalent of the old school marijuana. It is nothing like the hydroponic grown dope available. You should of tried some before it was banned. It's no worse for you than a bottle of red. ;)

I've just come in on the tail-end of this, and I haven't smoked marijuana in quite a few years so maybe I'm missing something here, but... why on earth would anyone want to smoke that Kronic stuff when SA weed is some of the best there is? I could understand a niche in the market for Kronic somewhere like Melbourne, whose weed is so awful that when I made a road-trip over there with some mates in 2004, they were able to sell off 2oz for $2000, no problems. But if I still smoked it, I'd rather smoke the real thing than a synthetic imitation.
