In our multicultural society we should celebrate all religious festivals!
The Hebrew's got 'Hanukkah' which lasts 8 days
Islam has a whole month of 'Ramadan'
Mexican Catholicism celebrates 'El Dia de Los Muertos'
Irish Paganism has 'Samhain','Beltane', Imbolc' & 'Lughnasadh'
Plus there's also 'All Hallow's Eve' (Halloween)
...Any excuse for time off work eh?
GO THE GROWL!!!

Except for the fact that no work equals no pay, which equals no beer or anything else! :(

Good for you, but I'm the boss and I don't pay me because if I'm not there the one-man business isn't earning. Now, if I could verify as boss, and my wife could too as company secretary, that I was injured as employee of my company, at work, perhaps I could get a year off on WorkCover?????? Hmmm... problem is the wife's ethics.....

Most employees get paid for Public Holidays that is under old award system anyway but I guess Little John will change that under his regime.

Yes it is only those of us running our own business who don't. These days the only person I employ is my wife. It is not worth expanding a business - you just get buried in the paperwork of GST, compulsory super, PAYG withholding, etc. and finish up doing it at weekends - as I know from past experience. That's why I scaled down and now keep it simple.

The changes haven't really gone far enough to help small business - under 6 employees - cope, but they have gone too far for bigger businesses, which could carry the paper work because they are big enought to employ someone specifically to do it.
