Round 14 - WWT v CD @ Woodville - 2.10pm Sun 3/7/11

Postby GWW » Sun Jun 26, 2011 9:01 pm

The Eagles are currently in 3rd spot, however they haven't always been particularly convincing this season. They come up against league pacesetters, Central District, this week and coach Michael Godden will be hoping for a much improved performance on their round 13 loss against the Panthers. I expect the Bulldogs, with too much class over the ground, to win by about 6 goals.

Dogs by 40 points.
Some very ordinary signs for Eagles on weekend and Parry should get matches.

Pretty big game for the Dogs, a win here and the top 3 spot is looking good.

IIRC Central have struggled when coming off the bye and have also struggled at Woodville oval in recent times which makes me think this will be a very close game. Most would think Parry would miss through suspension which will be very handy for the young bulldog ruckmen.

For Central it looks certain they will lose Ian Callinan to the Crows. He could possibly be replaced by Jack Gunston who looks like being on the outer again at the Crows. I would also think Havelberg and Chris Gowans would come back into the side that easily beat Bays a fortnight ago. I would like Central to line-up like

F: Dunne Havelberg Williams
HF: J.Gowans Obst Gunston
C: Jenner C.Gowans Goodrem
HB: Sansbury Templeton Schiller
B: Barmby Sibenaler Spurr

R: Sutherland Thomas O'Sullivan
INT: Milne Habel, Reichart

INS- C.Gowans, Havelberg, Gunston
OUTS- Callinan, Musolino, Haydon

There's the motivation for Roy Laird and the team! A win after the bye, AND a correction to what is probably their ugliest statistic in SANFL at the moment.

I also think this could be much closer than the walkover many might expect from the Dogs. If it is wet (as is forecast), it could be a real slugfest.

Got any room for O'Hara?

If they all come back at once, the reserves will resemble a league side. But given most will have had a fair layoff and the guys who have come in are actually doing a good job I'd agree most will earn their way back.

The forgotten man in all this talk is Matt Westhoff. Was, I thought, in pretty good form before he hurt his hamstring. I think we're looking like being one tall forward light and he would fill the role nicely if he runs into any sort of form.

I would love to see Matty Westoff as the 3rd tall in the Central foward line as he has generally played when players have been injured, playing AFL etc, and therefore being either CHF or FF.

Unfortunatly though his reserve for hasnt warranted league selection. While his playing a good 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there his not playing consistent football that you would expect of an AFL listed player playing SANFL reserves.
Infact his now not the main target and if anything Nick White has probably taken over as the next key forward in line for a league birth. I have a feeling Matty Westoff may need to leave Central if he wants to save his AFL career by the end of the year. I dont see Lairdy budging and playing in the league just because the Power ask either.

is there a problem with slugs at Woodville on wet days?

Craig Parry will miss this game against the Dogs and the next 2 after that as well.

Was suspended for 3 weeks for his headbutt on Keegan Brooksby last weekend.

Very interesting time @ the Eagles now that Parry is out and the team has many questions hanging over it ! Is there any real change since last year re gameday execution .... no , our field kicking is still crap alot of the time ! Day , Staple , Goldsworthy and Geddes have all stepped up in their own way which is great for us , but the recruits have killed us so for this year with so little real input on the field ..... but Ill wait until the seasons end to fire off on that issue ! The people saying we think we are better then we actually are , well their right , but the deeper lying questions are the ones of real interest at this footy club now . If we dont see a definate improvement for the remaining season , then Godden & Davies will need much more then a shifter and screw driver this time around to retool this squad . The signs are not good ie. cant score when the opposition runs at and off our midfield and shows them no respect , our best footy may only happen when our opponents drop off for a time , being a forward in this side is a nightmare and our forwards get very few easy ones unless there on the boundary line ! We are Crow predictable in our gamestyle which can be a good thing if your on , but not even Collingwood are on every week . Unless you have a midfield with real pace and hardness , then you cant really hope to be top dog , and we only have hardness unfortunately !
