[quote="southee"]Great win by the guys!!

South came out alot more determined than the Eagles from the start. They used the breeze well ( 5 goal breeze). Thewlis, Stribling, Liddle, Cross played really well. Crabb in defence held up the backlines.
Wundke up forward kicked better than I have seen him for most of the year.

To me, the Eagles did not look "switched on" at all. I reckon they came to Noarlunga with the mind set that it was all going to fall into place and were going for a walk in the park.....they got a very rude shock!!

McKenzie, Jarrad stood out and held the flag up with some solid football. I do like the way McKenzie plays - always seems to put in for the Eagles no matter what.
Not enough workers for the Eagles unlike South who backed their team mates up. A few lazy players today for the Eagles.

Parry with the headbutt....well, I dont care what people say - a headbutt is a "Dog" act!!! I can handle a punch but to headbutt a player is not on in my books.

South v Port at Alberton next weekend.......should be a cracker game and a fight for the 5th spot.

:D[/quote

Liddle is a very good player and always digs in and I thought the big bloke Bass was very impressive .

I particularly enjoyed Don Cooper's comments on LifeFM today regarding Bass's game:

"Daniel Bass has had more taps than a plumbers shop"

Nice work Donnyc

Sounds like the Power rookie basketball convert played one of his better games of footy.

No love for Rockin' Ronnie Fuller on this thread?

Thought South looked a lot more structured and committed than the Eags did.

He is two years into the five year plan that he brought to the club and I think many would agree that he is doing a good job of getting our club off the bottom of the SANFL ladder and making our side competitive. Plenty more work to be done, but the signs are looking good at this stage, turn our list over again at the end of this season and I do think we will improve again.

Serious question - how many players from today's winning South team

a) came from other SANFL Clubs (and who?)
b) are listed with the Crows/Power (and who?)
c) are recruits from interstate (and who?)
d) are a product of the club's junior development program / Southern Football League? (and who?)
e) are from some other category not named above (and who?)

Seriously again WCP, it was a terrific effort by South. I actually picked them today so I was very pleased, as I was that my other 3 picks also won this round!

My question above was just prompted by reading the names in this thread of the good performing players, and then seeing reference to Ron F being in year 2 of a five year plan. I'm aware of South's efforts to recruit less from elsewhere and forge good relations with the SFL. I also look at the ladders for all three grades and wonder where the struggle really lies.

Off the top of my head, I think Sandery, Cockshell, Stribling, Wundke are from other SANFL clubs and maybe a few others. Talia and Bass are AFL listed. Liddle from interstate, and possibly Murphy? Help me out here though because I'm just genuinely interested to see where South is at (after a very good win today), in year 2 of 5.

How's that WCP?

With the five year plan, one of the issues that has been identified is the fact that most clubs (except M/V Emus) that feed into the SAFC are also at the bottom of the SFL ladder. South have made a massive amount of headway in trying to forge better links with the SFL clubs since Fuller came onto the scene, yet the reality is that the numbers of lads in the allocated SFL clubs that have the capacity to play SANFL are not as many as people think, often people with the ability go for the better $$$ in the SAAFL or other sides in the SFL, the club is trying to work on assisting our zoned clubs to improve, but its a long and tedious process.

To your list add Nathan Daniel and no doubt there are others too,

I am not greatly worried about South recruiting from other SANFL sides though, its a pretty formidable list of SAFC players that have been picked off by other sides, clearly its not a recruiting strategy that is foreign to other SANFL sides and if we can tap into it and get some successful players then so be it then. In the case of Wundke and Stribling its fair to say that both of them have taken off after making the change which may or may not have happened if they stayed where they were.

So Sojourner, given the problems with South's feeder SFL clubs being lowly ranked in the SFL, does this mean the strategy is dommed in this 5-year planning cycle? Will South have to return to recruiting more from other clubs/interstate leagues? And what does this really mean for the reserves and u/18s teams?
