Pretty funny having a chat to some of the new guys whilst stretching and attempting explain where it is - "Sort of North but more East" - "Like Marden" - "Nah, keep going" - "Really? I thought Adelaide stopped at Portrush Rd!".

In all seriousness this is probably Angle Vales biggest advantage this year. The ground is a long way away and it does take a bit out of you trying to get there, then when you are there you probably aren't as focused as you usually would be. Will be interesting to see how this works come finals

Very true. Probably a two way street, although teams only play once at Angle Vale each season (touch wood!). So it could be seen as a bigger impact to have to travel that big trip only once. Who really knows though!

Is the most talked about 'D' grade on safooty, Modbury, likely to put up a competitive performance against the undefeated SHOC, only for the main match to be a 300 point thrashing? If I was SHOC I'd be putting Cameron Carrol on Scudds in the 'B' grade match to see a true battle of heavy weights!

Our D grade are up and about in a big way and are looking forward to this game. Modbury couldn't stop big Nick Tait last time and I can't see them doing it again now. The team is also a lot stronger since the inception of the E grade. Hoping for a similar result

Angle Vale Soccer Club is pretty big and gains wheels every year, so does their junior footy, being a life member of a club that AVFC has pillaged in recent years for players I can't say that I'm too rapt about it, nevertheless it will be the biggest sporting complex in the northern suburbs when completed...................yes, I'm jealous and envious.

I notice another great win by the Modbury D Grade over the unbeaten SHOC. Must be great to have a win like that, shower, then hang around having a few beers watching the blokes in there C grade get there arse handed to them on a plate each week. I take my hat off to these C grade players busting there arse each week trying there best, while the club lets these sandbaggers be hero's in there lowest grade.

I for one hope you get knocked out in straight sets and to the C grade players trying there best each week to suffer 200 points losses, hold your head up high as i much rather have a beer with you blokes than a bunch of arrogant sandbaggers.

Go on shout me down, but im sure deep down i would have a lot of support.

After reading the Footy Budget's prediction of a 150+ point drubbing (which I thought was a tad disrespectful) and the fact that it was a glorious day for football yesterday so I walked down to Max Amber Reserve to watch Mitchell Park play Athelstone.

I got there 3qrtr time of the D Grade (or B grade depending on which club your from) to see Athelstone well ahead of MPFC. Watching the last quarter the Raggies team looked like it had a good mix of old wise heads and young fast legs. They worked to the final siren and in the end ran the legs of the generally older MPFC team. There are certainly a number of youngsters running round in the Raggies D’s that will play higher levels of football in the future be it this year or next.

I hoped the main game would be a cracker and at quarter time it looked like it would be with only a couple of goals in it at quarter time and MPFC having kicked with a slight breeze. Unfortunately the bigger stronger (and much more colourful) bodies of MPFC began to overpower the younger smaller Raggies team. By three quarter time the game was done, but whatever the Raggies coach said to them in the huddle must have stung them as they came out to double their score in the last quarter. The Raggies had a young tall skinny kid across half back, who never took a backwards step and ran hard at the ball all day. They also had another young fella in the forward lines who lead to the ball, did a bit of ruck work and provided a target up forward.

From the far side (in the sun) the game looked to be played in good spirit. MPFC are a well drilled, strong bodied team with a good work ethic ie run to space, shepherd etc and should go deep into September. Athelstone are a young up and coming team, who on their day will push any team. From the sidelines yesterday it looks like the trick is getting them to do it for 4 quarters. With some of the kids they have playing they will bounce back.

I left the game thinking that MPFC whilst the better side were not necessarily a 20 goal better side.

Morell I see you're a MPFC man and regular contributor here - how did you see it?

More than a fair write up 250+, I hope you enjoyed the day!

I think the only reason the budget gave that tip was because of the score the previous week, Athelstone are a proud club and we knew they would come out and give it their all, especially after we tried to nick their warm up spot out the back, pretty funny having nearly 50 blokes warm up in a cage about the size of two goal squares. Got a bit testy a couple of times, credit to both teams for keeping their cool.

I believe they had a few handy ins as well, and we had some drop out late, so I was pretty stoked with the result. Luke Mc, May, Davidson and Potters being the standouts for us and after them the teams were probably fairly evenly matched.

For the Raggies I thought #9 was solid all day, to the point that we felt we should put a tag on him. He was dangerous up forward when he was there, won the ball in the middle and helped out his defense when he could. Good bloke as well. The guy wearing the helmet was handy too.

Hopefully we get our captain back this week, and our fullback (so I don't have to play there - that is never pretty) to fill out our side against the Lakers.

Yes that is the same Chris Robertson.

i believe he has taken a year off umpiring but has found himself playing again. hopefully his knee holds up so he can play a few more games till the end of the season.

Absolutely agree with the above post.

I think Modbury's D Grade will get a rude shock come finals after only winning by 2pts as a result of a kick 20secs before the final siren. A lot of the SHOCs boys were playing at a level well below their best on Saturday.

Was a good hitout between Mawson Lakes and Angle Vale on Saturday and we wer lucky enough to get away with the win. Thought No 2 was very good for you guys Anderson very quick player. Doesnt get any easier for us when we take on Mitchell Park and morell I think riddler owes you a beer or two!
