It's interesting to take a look at the same problems elsewhere.

It's really dangerous forgetting about where you came from and the AFL have been doing it for years , and that cascades down to the SANFL & WAFL comp. Good luck rebuilding when the foundation is stuffed and the AFL are slowly seeing signs of their work since Demetriou has been in charge .It's called lag time .

Theyre unique in the terms of AFL expansion. It's easy for the AFL to plonk clubs in NSW and QLD and do what ever they like at the local level. In WA and SA, they've got established clubs that were well supported to contend with.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

I've not only fallen short, I haven't even tried. I would be pissing into the wind and we both know it. You may drop your pretentions to intellectual rigour; they do not wash with me.

Fair enough, mate, you're entitled to like what you want.

As for the substance of the debate, it now seems that what I'm saying continues to be so, with today's announcement that AFL Reserves teams won't be in the SANFL.

And its great news.

But if there was an apathetic public who didn't care what happened to this league, they would do whatever they want.

Doesn't bother me at all if the threat from the AFL was real or perceived, the fact so many have responded to the Hands Off campaign in so short a time is a very good thing IMO. Absolutely nothing wrong with pre-emptive action.

Quite right, mate.

I'm as passionate about the SANFL as anyone on here, but what I've been saying has been proven reasonable so far.

If there's a real threat, I'll be at the front of the line, but I'd rather we concentrated on real threats instead of those that aren't there.

I also think that the Hands Off was a message to the Ruccitiser as much as anything regarding an actual AFL threat. We've been marginalised for too long, yet more people probably watch the SANFL than any other sport league in this state aside from the AFL, but we're largely ignored and even being attacked more recently.

Well, that's a different topic and one I'd totally agree with you about.

I think Adelaide Now and the SANFL journalists do a good job, given the space restrictions they have. As for the 'senior journalist', I'd agree with you that he mistakes opinion for news and spins half-truths into fact, if it suits his argument. If he's proven wrong, he goes missing.

One thing I cant understand is SA Footy is supposed to be so badly off, however in the last 14 years our AFL clubs have played in a 4 Grand Finals (one only 3 seasons ago), won 3 flags and played a number of Prelim finals. Meanwhile SANFL crowds and interest has been maintained and maybe even increased in the same period, despite one club dominating.

So why the knee jerk reaction that SA Footy is stuffed?

Very Neville Chamberlain......

Good work, Centurion :)

Far be it from me to guess who Pancho might be, but there are one or two obvious candidates ;)

Is it? Is the Hands Off campaign more about any direct AFL issued threat or a response to media vilification? Genuine question.
