Two words: Ryan Willits.

Lobbe moved from Port to West

A big YES to the above. One more way in which the AFL has negative influence on the SANFL.

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if any of the non-original AFL players were transferred to other clubs (between seasons, natch) where the Crows and Power can wreak havoc as they see fit. OTOH I would be severely bothered to see any born-and-bred Bays (Cornesey!) lining up with other teams.

Tend to feel the same way about this Pseudo. Guess the other side of the argument is someone like Redden at the Eagles, and we have numerous ruckmen and forwards ahead of him. If he wanted to go to another SANFL club to perhaps help his development in playing AFL footy, then I have no dramas. However, if he was then delisted by the Power, I'd be pretty annoyed if he formed formed a good SANFL career at the other club, given he was a born and bred Eagles player (different to Willits).

Regarding the disruptive influence, guess it depends on the quality of the player. Glenelg and West at the moment perhaps have more fringe AFL players than other clubs, although Centrals have a number too, so perhaps it comes down to the reliance on the AFL players as opposed to having them as the cream on top.

It only seems to be an issue for the Power these days. Every time you hear a story about an AFL listed player moving for more opportunities, playing selfishly, being recalled at late notice, being asked to come off at half time unexpectedly, it's almost always the Power. And we look at the Glenelg side on Saturday, we see the AFL listed players in question are Power players. Begs the question, are the Power breeding a culture of selfish sooks?

Evening out players is a bad idea though. You'd have situations where you'd be asking a player and club that are happy working together to part ways so the player can go to a club that doesn't look after the AFL listed players so well. Not to mention the players, AFL, SANFL, SANFL clubs and AFL clubs would all be opposed so such a plan.

The way I was suggesting it, was for this not to happen, but more even up via future drafts and then maintain as close to even numbers as possible via the mini-drafts thereafter, allocating picks depending on how many AFL listed's each club had.

Has been a good discussion, but I think the answer appears to be a resounding "NO" and as Pseudo mentioned, any system that's used would never be perfect I guess.
