Pick your state side

Postby bloods08 » Wed Jun 15, 2011 10:39 pm

Usually this time of year we have a state game against either Victoria v Western Australia, but because of the Foxtel Cup (mainly) we will not be able to have it this year.

I thought it would be good to see everyones state sides for a bit of fun. Usual qualifications apply.... ie. no first year recruits, no afl listed players (excludes rookies).

Here goes

F: Havelberg Duldig F Caruso
HF: Ezard Rowe Kirkby
C: Campbell Allan Stribling
HB: McKenzie (c) McGuinness Mules
B: Morris Silvester Ivens
R: Parry Thomas (vc) Lewis
Int: Willits Dolling Jarrad

Very very tough to do. Which forwards to go in made it real hard.

No doubt there is alot of players who are deserving but I tried to pick the best balanced side.

I would love to see some other peoples attempts.

I like your side Big Phil but you wouldnt want it wet or playing on a dewy surface with all that height in the forward line.

-Also is C. Gowans still in the best 21 in the league as I love the way he goes about his footy but I would think younger legs would get the nod ahead of him.

Surprised that no one has picked Anderson as a defender. He's been outstanding this year.

Mules is nowhere near it this year, sadly.

Not eligible as a first year interstate recruit. Although they did waiver that rule a few years ago to get Stephen Kenna (iirc) in. I think he ended up kicking the winning goal.

I thought if had been pretty good the 3 or 4 times I'd seen him this year. Must have been pretty poor the others then. Might put Ferguson to CHB then and McGuinness to a back flank.

agree with Sansbury, He has saved His career this year, His dashes from the backlines have been very exciting & something you don't see very often these days.

Yeah, I think it was more about rewarding a 34 year old's great form, in his 11th season of league SANFL football, with a state jumper.

Just thought with that tall forward line he would play a permanent forward role as there is plenty of midfield depth with the other players named.

If it was wet and or dewey, I think Ben Kennedy would have a field day, hence why I had him in my side despite only being a State U/18.

Not suggesting they would all make a squad, but from a Norwood POV I think only the following would be in with a chance of some sort:

Campbell
McGuiness
Rowe
Georgiou
Suckling
Zorsi
Bode

Gallagher perhaps was on track before injury .. Campbell and McGuiness would be the only certainties I'd think.

Na mate I wouldn't think .. He's been much better in the last month IMHO, but I can't see that he'd be pushing a state team level

Definatly think Chris Gowans would be deserving of his place based on this years form! He has been terrific back to his best where he picks up lots of possesions and kicks goals.

From Central the only players i think would be a chance to be picked would be

-Paul Thomas
-Chris Gowans
-Eddie Sansbury
-Trent Goodrem
-Tommy 'the gun' Dunne
-Daniel Havelberg
-Lee Spurr

By the end of the year though i think Alan Obst will be in most peoples best 21!

What would you know anyway Beef - you've been to all of 1 Norwood game this year ;)

I think Grocke and Alleway are playing the CHF role on a permanent basis pretty much while Rowey has pinch hit in ruck and up forward. As a ruckman alone, I can't pick him ahead of Meiklejohn and Parry. Very good player indeed and unlucky not to be put on the rookie list this year with the other cliub you support, Carlton.

And FYI mate, I have added Sam Rowe to my unlucky list now, certainly deserving of it.
