Not a bad line up - i however am not convinced about Baulderstone.... too slow around the ground and not having the impact he did last years (have seen him play 2 games so he might have been ok in others) - Benny Simmounds toweled him up when strath played compass and Ben is U/21 - i think Baulderstone is in on past reputation (30KG's lighter)

If you were there today you would be convinced. Some of his tap work was exceptional against a very good player. Hes also only 20yrs of age.

i was there, i didnt realise he was so young, his tap work was brilliant but its not hard to pick up possesions when ya stay put in the centre of the ground for so long.

He got lots of possessions against us as a link man by doing exactly that - not leaving the square.

Not many but still more than you see most weekends!!

Most weekends, I'd say every weekend. If that amount of people rolled through the gates for a gsfl match you'd consider closing up shop. As for association football, see the post a couple of pages back re: the country Vic model. It's the only way to go

Freezing cold and we couldn't have our cars to sit in, so multitudes stayed away.
What was wrong with Reynella Oval, or Noarlunga, or the Port ?
No cars, no atmosphere, means no people

On Saturday morning I noticed the GSFL game was at 5pm and was going to head down for a look with a mate. He didnt get back to me till 4:40 when I had retired to the couch with a beer, so I CBF. I did think cars would be allowed - glad I didnt bother, esp given the result.

Having said a lot of negative stuff about the association, take nothing away from our lads. Sacrificed their Saturday and represented the league bloody well. Great effort, you can only beat what's put in front of you

I love the concept of Association Footy.. Makes me wonder tho, why did the SFL choose to field their 'stronger' side against the RMFL, an obviously inferior side, a league the GSFL has beaten repeatedly??? Perhaps they were worried we would give them a hiding??? Id would love to see FULL STRENGTH NON AGE RESTRICTED Association Football return!!! Would be an amazing standard of footy!!
P.S. I dont understand why players dont want to represent their league to play against the (supposed) best of another league?? Im not good enough to play, but what an honour it would be!!! Why dont people wanna play??? Do they just want a weekend off???

Might also have something to do with them risking their pay cheques. With some players receiving more than their weekly wage for footy why would they risk injury in an association game. Obviously some do and well done to them, but when you start talking age restrictions etc. it probably also takes away some of the prestige of playing .

I would hope that money is not the deciding factor... Insurance covers all association games as it does all normal games.. If thats the reason, then you might as well dump Association footy now, coz thats just a cop out pure and simple.. Wheres the honour and pride??? Maybe a cash bonus to play in those games could be a carrot to dangle in frobt of them.. IF THE LEAGUES PICK THE BEST TEAM AVAILABLE, not just on reputation... Who knows...

There are many reasons why someone wouldn't want to play I guess.

Without trying to brag I can speak from experience. I was lucky enough to play in a Lovelock Shield win many years ago - just being selected in the squad was a huge honour for me and even training with the best in the league was such a buzz. I still have the guernsey and it is a prized possession. I also played in the under 23's on KI which also was fantastic to be a part of. BUT, when I was selected for the association after that my troublesome groin kept me out - while the injury wouldnt have stopped me playing for Victor, a week off was very important to me - more important than the association squad second time round.

Why would someone like Ross Gibbs at around age 40 want to play - sure he was the leading goalkicker by far, but he had played WAFL, SANFL and state footy and even went to Ireland to play international rules. I know he was playing because he loved it and wanted to keep playing as long as he could. I dont think there would be much incentive for people that have played consistently at a higher level to be involved really.

Many of the ex-league guys I played with didnt play, but we still put up plenty of quality players year-in, year-out (Levy, Carpenter, Brown etc) with many going on to play zone and state. Everyone has different priorities.

As for the SFL stronger side scenario, a cynic might suggest that they wanted to ensure at least 1 win for their 125yr celebrations.

the Bays over McLaren - have had a couple of bad losses but with a weeks rest should be too good at home

another hard day for Myponga - Strath to win on wet and windy pongy but about 5 goals

great game this one - victor up and down this year while Willunga going about business as usual
being at home Willunga by about 4 goals

another interesting game - Yank not at their best but the Creeks playing really well - at Yank mm hard one - go for the Creeks with the mighty Feast a weeks rest will be raring to go - Creeks by 3 goals

now my side Compass - sadly are definately worse off this year by a long way even though have a couple of decent inclusions to the side from last year but have gone backwards - but even with their up and down form i think Goolwa will be no match - Compass by about 10 goals

final five is set with the way Compass are playing the gap will only widen in the second half of the season
Strath and Creeks best two sides with Willunga nipping at their heels building towards the finals - then Victor and Yank
none of the bottom 5 from last year have improved enough and I still believe that Compass are the 6th best side but nowhere near as good after watching the Yank, Creek and Strath debacles

Strath game might be a little bit closer as all reports ive heard indicate up to 6 A grade players are unnavailable - Cousins, Eagleton, Elliott, Vaninetti, Thorpe and the possibility of another 3-4. interesting to see how they go with not a lot of depth.

I read on the SANFL link that South have been averaging over 2,500 per game this year and from the games I have been to this year (1st night game v North and easer game v Port) atmosphere at Hickinbotham has been super despite sh1tty weather.

If association game had more than that, I can't see why it did not have a good atmosphere, and can't imagine any association game in the state gettign more than 2,500 odd?

Must say that I agree, it seems a very strange decision by the SFL to not bring cars in - has made a massive differance to the atmosphere at South games since they introduced them. Why would they do this?

The best thing that the SFL assocaition could have done was to use commonsense and play this at a grass roots venue in the SFL and then we would not have the SFL bigwigs dressed up to the nines at a venue that don't support the grassroots clubs well enough anyway. The SFL have one of the greatest venues to host Grand finals but still insist on using the Arctic park at South Adelaide. Grow up and realise that we are still in the country playing footy, we don't even get to train or play here prior to finals so it is useless to actually play the most important game of the year at a venue that no-one gets to see or play on!!!

did the SAFC not know there was an association game on .. with a lot of young and upcoming talented footballers playing throughout the day.... OR am i that blind, because I did not see any SAFC coaches, managers and players out there supporting/watching the games - help present the trophies/medals or mingling with the crowd

I agree why do we have to play on that crap oval and put cash over their bars/pokies - when we have plenty of fantastic local grounds to pump some money into.... even the association room does not have any pictures of precious teams representing the zone up .. it is all barren

Didn't you read the messenger at the start of the year? Apparently theres nothing in the feeder clubs worth looking at in senior level...... In saying that, i know Troy Jacques who coached the 16's at South would have been there if he could of. Often see him at the Gsfl grounds.

this is typical south...dont work their zone and then have a big cry in the media about not having a fair slice of the southern area...cant believe they didnt get involved in some way...trophy handouts etc.
