Revenue could be the only possible reason for keeping a final 5 with 7 teams. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next 5 to 10 years with the Mallee League, if it disbands, possibly a club from the Mallee may be a viable addition to the RMFL.

Good point GWW. A league needs to viable, finals footy is a draw card, gets people through the gates. To diminish that by making it a top 4 would be a very poor move. Expansion back towards a 10 club league is inevitable for the RMFL with the growth of Murray Bridge and the potential of admitting a top or amalgamated MFL team.

No, no actual talk, Ryder Courtney, sorry my last post may have been misleading. I just meant that gradually changes may be made to the competition and the local communities may not be able to sustain a football club. But I meant in 5 or 10, or 15 years time. I think I read on the Mallee thread though that Murrayville is thinking of joining a neighbouring Victorian League next year.

Yeah not sure how the neighbouring Mallee league is going anyways. Have heard over the last few years that Ouyen may head to the Sunraysia and a couple of other clubs like Hopetoun may be on their last legs.

Interesting times ahead for sure. Ive got no doubt that the extra couple of games in the finals would bring more revenue and ofcourse this must be good for the Association but it does look SILLY to have a 7 team comp with 5 in finals.

I also find it hard to beleive that in the near future there is enough growth in MB to be able to sustain another side.

I doubt we'll get a Redlegs mark 2, unless its perhaps a "Peake Redlegs" or "Karoonda Redlegs". The obvious choice location wise is Callington but obviously thats not an option due to their lack of competitiveness and not having netball or junior teams.

Langhorne Creek joining the RMFL, if it was to ever happen, would be great though.

This week's games should be interesting:

Imperials v Ramblers - outcome of this game may be dependent upon player availability as both clubs have had their fair share of injuries recently. Ramblers have had the more consistent form this year and even though its at Johnstone Park I reckon the Chooks will win by about 4 goals.

Tailem Bend v Meningie - this is almost impossible to pick because we don't know which Meningie side will turn up. I'll go for Tailem 11-20, basically because they're the home team, but a Bears victory wouldn't surprise.

Mypolonga v Mannum - the Roos will be looking for revenge after Mypo upset them earlier in the year. I think Mannum has picked up their form a little bit of late, and i think they're still a definite chance for this years flag. Mannum by 6 goals.

Agreed this would be a great situation for the RMFL, not sure how likely it would be. They would be pretty happy in the GSFL wouldnt they?

Which clubs are struggling to keep up? Unless you mean financially. This is the most even comp for years.

Slug, do you actually know what goes on in the RMFL? Your posts are quite off the mark. If you knew anyone within the RMFL Executive and Committee you'd know their position on joining other leagues. Not gonna happen. Growth of the RMFL will happen, in the meantime the 'firming up' of the current environment will continue to happen.

I'm sure there is protocall to go through, but if correct procedure is followed, is there anything the RMFL as a body can do if an Independent club wanted to leave? Was big rumours around Tailem Bend shifting into the Mallee league only a couple of years back. I even think it went as far as talks with neighbouring clubs involving a merger. Lets face it, they would become a powerful club over night in that league, and have good drawing power in comparison to the other sides in the Mallee aswell.

Won't happen. The Creek (i assume) are happy & are in a very good comp.

I reckon there were also rumours about Imps joining the Hills League a few years ago, may have just been a rumour, don't know if there was any substance to it.

Yeah wasn't necessarily saying they would move to RMFL, just saying they would be ideal if they did, given their location and strength.

Thats a fantastic concept Big Fulla, the TBFC has been very lucky with indigenous players over the years. Will be interesting to see some of the names listed, I imagine it will include Don Tschuna, Kev Krop Snr, Muffy, Roger Wilson, Noel Hartman, plus a heap more.

They'll be there. Some very good players in the team, achieved a lot for the TBFC and the RMFL.

This is a very powerful league and there were at least 5 State country players in their team. Very few leagues besides Great Southern would get closer to Southern than the margin they defeated the RMFL by. Calling us a Mickey Mouse League is simply inaccurate.
