In my opinion and those around me, your D grade team would beat your C grade team. is it also true that some blokes refuse to play C grade because of the coach?

Footy_Smart just wondering if you can answer this for me mate?[/quote]

There is no doubt that some blokes in the D grade should be playing higher D grade, rather they should be be playing higher than Div 7 full stop

However many/majority cannot commit to training let alone playing every week for various reasons. Some even weren’t planning on playing this season. The D grade coach rang them and asked if they would help out with numbers etc. which they were happy to do.

A few have rotated through the C grade and due to late withdraws from higher the teams (as per last Saturday where 3 went up to the Bs sat morning, this included the C grade coach and captain).

What needs to be remembered is this is our C and D grade playing A & B grades, injuries to our higher grades emphasises the strength/weakness of the C grade side.

Have i covered the issues/questions re MFC satisfactorily ;)

Yes you have mate, no problem, thanks for clearing it up. Just funny to see blokes who could clearer play higher running around in D grades. In my opinion you play where you are picked not where you want to play.

Yes def agree mate, but there is a fine line between filling 4 sides and p*ssing people off and them leaving!

What we are hoping is that next year these blokes get back out and want to play higher. I know a few are planning to!

Good points Footy Smart and others, as a player in the higher grades i can safely say we have robbed our C grade of atleast 2 players every saturday morning this year due to late withdrawls, and i dont recall one round where we have dropped more players than we have pinched. Can make it very hard on the C Grade.

I really hope the modbury boys can get up as its Phill Davenport's 100th game for the club and the captain Mark Shean's 150th for the club. Great blokes that deserve a win.

I think that this has to be the biggest fault in the way that a lot of clubs are run these days (not specifically directing this at Modbury - just something I noticed). The reality is that this is the Amateur League, there is definitely too much emphasis on training and pre seasons etc. If lads are able to play high in a grade but can only train once a week for an hour because of work then this should be accepted. The reality is that football clubs in the SAAFL don't pay enough to warrant lads picking training over work

Awful first quarter by the Crabs. Modbury built a 5 or 6 goal lead in the second quarter. Flinders showed some fight in the last two quarters to briefly captured the lead very late in the peace before going down by 4pts.

I can't fathom a logical reasons as to why Scudds is playing Div 7 reserves.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

Pure laziness? sounds pretty logical to me

I too was shattered for the crabs - I was reading the scores at the club and let out a big "OH NO! :( "

Everyone thought I broke the computer or something

I belief big Scuddsy wasnt goin 2 play this season as he was commited to spending time with his wife and little boy. I agree should be playing a higher grade of football. I think hes doin them a favour by helping them out.

How is he doing them a favor? If he wasn't going to play but is playing, y wouldn't he play higher unless he just wants to sandbag in a lower grade?

Im not sure if you have seen the great man as of late but he is not exactly moving too well, he has only really started to train once a week but i do know he has been trying to get fit and is looking to play higher next year which is great news for us and him!

How did the Angle Vale v Mitchell Park game pan out? Looked on paper like a bit of a shoot out would have been a good game to watch.

It was an OK standard game. I don’t think either side really set the world alight. I know we played a lot better against SHOC the week before and having a chat to the Owl lads I think they felt the same way. Would have been good for the traditionalists, don’t think there was a missed tackle or soft effort all day.

We lost our dour key defender Adam Hay early in the first quarter which really didn’t help our cause, he was playing on the guy who went on to kick 8 goals I believe. Credit to Angle Vale, they converted their chances and we didn’t, myself being a villain of quite deplorable accuracy in front of goal.

They have some quick lads mixed in with some solid boys to have a nicely balanced side. Will be a threat come finals time but I still have SHOC and ML ahead of them. The umpiring was again very ordinary, marks that were called marks before the ball got to the player (who then of course dropped it). I kicked one to Luke in the forward line that was blatantly touched off my boot (everyone heard it) but the umpire who is hard of hearing obviously didn’t hear it, resulted in a goal for us. Getting pretty sick to death of potentially good games of football getting ruined by people who have no idea/aren’t physically capable/have an agenda.

Bookies nightmare. Personally I haven't seen or heard of anything that would make Mawson Lakes at longer odds than Angle Vale. However, the Owls have definitely snuck under the radar and are the red hot side of the comp.

Probably about time we had an updated market actually;

Mawson Lakes - $2.90
Angle Vale - $3.50
Sacred Heart - $3.75
Tea Tree Gully - $5.00
Mitchell Park - $6.00

North Pines - $8.00
Athelstone - $10.00
Flinders Uni - $35.00
Modbury - $50.00
Bye - POA

I know you only updated this last week but given it's now at the half way mark and everyone has played everyone and you've seen all the teams first hand does your odds still remain the same Morell?
May aswell throw in your medal tips also ;)

Only that I think SHOC are clear second favourites and Angle Vale are 3rd in my opinion.

Modbury and Flinders are hard because Modbury fluctuates so much (as does TTG). When we played them Flinders Uni were a 10 goal better side than Modbury, but things change so much with 3rd string sides its almost impossible to create a realistic market.

So maybe swap SHOC and Angle Vale odds and I reckon its about right yeah...

I think you could cluster the 9 teams into 3 unique segments:

Elite 3

Mawson Lakes
SHOC
Angle Vale

Finals Tier

Tea Tree Gully
Mitchell Park
North Pines

Struggling a tad

Athelstone
Modbury
Flinders Uni

Medal tips - Brenton Reidy is always prominent, as is O'Gorman. Angle Vale is very even but their ruckman is a standout. SHOC I have no idea, all those tanned college boys look the same. Maybe Floreani? TTG Mount and Uncle will be thereabouts. Mitchell Park - May and Davidson have been excellent thus far.
