Why the hell would Nick Xenophon give a rats. Our clubs are propped up by the one thing he despises.....POKIES!!!!!!
Besides it's not a political issue so don't waste his time.

Ease up mate and I am for real . The SANFL were actually in a stronger posistion than you think and should have demanded more at the time but I am not sure you have the capacity to understand that.

Stop fighting amongst yourselves.
AFL would love to divide and conquer the SANFL supporter base.
Just look at what is about to happen in WA. SA next if we don't stand up for our own league

Yes, JTC is was me making my small protest, quietly & with dignity today.
There are a number of questions posed, so I will attempt to answer some...

1. Having thought about it, next Saturday night is too rushed to organise a rally - although I will go myself anyway & do the same as today (quiet protest).
I agree a far more organised rally is required - I am thinking perhaps the Showdown.

2. We need to stop laying blame for the situation we are in - Port in '87, Basheer, Olsen, whatever. If we are to be taken seriously then we need facts, figures & rational arguement.

3. I really don't care if some people think I'm a lunatic or whatever - this is something I feel passionate about & I intend to continue to protest with or without support from others. Obviously, it would be great if the 'collective' element became involved together & we at least showed the footy public in this state that we are here & we have a voice.

4. Apathy is our worst enemy. To sit back & do nothing is to give up - & that's exactly what Dimetriou & that lot want. It is interesting that a number on here are happy to hide behind a keyboard but when it comes down to actually doing something, they would prefer to be critical or belittle.

5. It is not a political issue @ present but it has the potential to become one in the near future. We have a state election not all that far away. Who's to say an Independent Legaslative Council ticket is not in the offering?

As I said, we need to UNITE & put petty rivalry asside if we are to be taken seriously.

Some support from across the Nullabor...
These were posted on the Fans Unite FB page...

Gday everyone. We are massive Swan Districts fans in the wafl and are concerned about what the afl clubs are trying to do to our competition. I saw Scott's post on our group page and I decided to to join your group to support you guys because i feel like the great traditions of our competitions are being stripped away from us. My Dad used to take me as a kid down to Bassendean Oval every home game and now I take my Daughter. I hope one day she will be able to take her kids along but if we dont fight for our competitions she will never be able too. Go the Black Ducks

I think the leadership of the SANFL have been the lackies of the AFL for far to long. If they wont stand up for what is best for the SANFL over what is best for the AFL then its time to move on and get someone in leadership that will make the hard decisions.

I like the "Hands Off Our SANFL" Logo too, easily turned into Banners, T-shirts & Flyers

Good articles, HP.

LEH, I agree with you totally that if we are to be taken seriously, we need facts, not irrational argument.

IMO there's too much panic-merchant stuff and too much name-calling.

We need to support the SANFL maintaining its integrity and that, IMO, means supporting the SANFL administration when necessary and criticising it when deserved. If we want to fight for the SANFL's integrity, support it and lobby our clubs to stand firm first. It will be the clubs who vote on the things we're concerned about.

Whether we like it or not, Andrew Demetriou is a highly successful AFL chief. He had a major hand in the Adelaide Oval situation. He doesn't understand or care much about the SANFL, but it's in his interests that football in SA is successful. Our task should be to make it clear that the SANFL shouldn't be interfered with by the AFL. The best way to do that is with facts, logic and passion, not by relying on personal abuse.

I don't agree with everthing the SANFL do, but it's unarguable that they have made the SANFL the richest non-National league in Australia. Regardless of licences, etc, they will continue to control football in SA, only limited by the realities of keeping a necessarily cordial relationship with the governing body, the AFL. In such a relationship, there has to be some compromises, but overall, our competition gets stronger in SA, while the AFL comp here is struggling.
