Love seeing family connections coming through the game.
Its part of the fabric.
Trevor Clisby was a good player on his day.

The frustrating thing uncovering young talent is the big threat to lose them 1 or 2 years after they establish themselves in a league spot. It happens to all clubs and the threat is bigger now there are 2 more AFL teams and the GWS getting a lot of concessions for the next 2 years.

With recent mature age picks by AFL Clubs and many have been regulars e.g. Lower, Duigan etc from the SANFL and even Callinan at 27 shows that the AFL clubs are hovering and will be forced to look closer. A few things governed by the AFL haven't helped - Foxtel Cup which gives a greater focus on State League talent, reduction of the Salary Cap and import rule which the SANFL bent over and got shafted without any fight is not making it easier to replace talent / experience yet the stand alone VFL Clubs and VIC Couintry clubs have no salary imposts imposed.

North need to look at the Central "model" (if there is one - I suspect it is culture) where despite the Dogs loosing talent each year to the draft they seem to have a good core group of talent and experienced players who you might say (and with no disrespect) are great at SANFL level but not quite great enough to take the next step up?

11 years of Central dominance is surely enough time for all the other clubs maybe except the Eagles to have learned something?

Let's all hope Centrals win well this week. Look how some go on when you nearly loose.

Not sure about loose, though a few of us straining the seams a bit more as the years pass bye. :D

Hey Dogwatcher - apparently Clisby was a guest of the Brisbane Lions yesterday so you can expect he will get planety of notice come draft time and be lost to the SANFL but good luck to him as with the other kids aiming for the top!

Unless it's changed this year, stand-alone VFL clubs (of which there are only two) do have a salary cap, which is higher than that of the other clubs.

On radio today the claim was made that a centrals supporter spat on umpire M.Avon after the game.Personally i didnt see any of the game and i know umpires are hated but for any supporter to do this isnt on,lets hope dont have incidents like this in the future.

I was a mere matter of a few metres from the race when the umpires passed underneath. Usually there is the idiotic element booing the umpires for some unknown slight and bias they showed during every game, but this one as always was the "worst ever seen" seemingly until the next week. And I've never actually looked at the morons closely enough (my attention being mistly geared towards the opposition walking off and Centrals walking off behind them. But often I've wondered whether someone had in fact spat on the umpires. This game I noticed someone giving the umpires the usual treatment but didn't see anything. Normally with the attention I give that would be nothing. But I glanced over and saw a police officer standing there too. If someone had, in fact, spat on anyone, this police officer should have had no problem whatsoever seeing it, having an unimpeded view of all those gathered around the race at that time. If something did happen, I sincerely hope they were spotted, arrested and charged.

I really hope we don't get to a point of covering that race. The kids really enjoy sticking their hands through the wire to get high fives from the players. We lose that, we lose a little bit of our league's appeal.

What amazes me is that these accusations go live to air
trashing the reputation of a supporter base and by association a club without even
checking first if there is a hint of truth in the accusation.

Where does interactivity stop and defamation begin?
