If Brennan can play like that consistently, he could be anything. Could be an Elite player but puts out one of those performances once a year. time for him to be consistent

This team will win a flag within 5 years. They have some mercurial talent. The AFL have given them the biggest leg up ever.

... because they beat Port who are in disarray, and then Brisbane who have been imploding for about a year now?

Very true, but it is an extremly comfortable lifestyle on the GC and im sure as the year wears out the GC staff will be deciding which players to allocate most of their wages to.

Also GC definatly has a feel as a team thats on the up* and that the players will have that feel of being part of history as they create their own records etc etc.

Yeah i think its way to early to make calls on when the GC will win their first premiership.

Collingwood arent going anywhere in a hurry, Carlton, Fremantle and Essendon are very young lists that are definatly got lots of upside.

Also with the draft picks they have accumalated over the years Melbourne and Richmond should be on the improve over the next 5 years.

Jim05 said in another thread that the AFL would be delighted by the big 3  being in the top half of the ladder. Somehow, I think this event over the weekend would make them happier.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/113420/default.aspx

SATURDAY'S clash between Gold Coast and the Brisbane Lions has turned out to be historic on two fronts.

Not only was it the first ever AFL game between the two Queensland clubs but it set a record as the most-watched AFL broadcast ever on Fox Sports.

A total of 354,745 viewers tuned in around the country for the three-hour broadcast, surpassing the previous record of 328,436 for the 2007 round 21 clash between Richmond and Essendon.

That meeting between the Bombers and Tigers was notable for being the last game in Melbourne for outgoing Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy and star player James Hird.

The Gold Coast-Brisbane Lions clash was the only AFL match played on Saturday night, and had a lead-in via the twilight Saturday game between Richmond and Fremantle that was also broadcast on Fox Sports.

The Tigers v Fremantle game drew 285,127 viewers nationally and represented the eighth most-watched match for an AFL game on Fox Sports.

AFL chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan said he was pleased with the interest shown in the all-Queensland match.

"Like the Derby in WA and the Showdown in SA, the QClash straight away showed that it’s a fierce contest for bragging rights in the state between the Suns and the Lions and fans across the country tuned in to watch the match, and then stayed with the telecast right to its conclusion," McLachlan said on Monday.

"The viewer numbers for free-to-air television in Queensland were extremely strong, when considering the other viewing options for the night, and the interest of fans around the country on pay television was reflected with an all-time record for an AFL match on Fox Sports."

McLachlan said the new record figure continued a trend of an increase in pay TV viewership.

"So far this year, four matches from the 2011 season are now placed in the all-time top 10 for AFL matches on pay television, as well as two games from the 2011 NAB Cup," McLachlan said.

"That is showing us that there is still a lot of upside for us to be able to draw on in terms of viewer numbers for our matches, as fans increasingly seek to watch multiple matches across a weekend."

From next season, every game will be broadcast live on pay television, with four matches a week to be simulcast on free-to-air television.

I would expect they would be more than competative in 3 - 4 years based on the squad at the moment. Also I would expect Melbourne, freo and Carlton to be very good in that period and also Collingwood will still be strong through that period as well. Im not sure about richmond, you just dont know what will happen with them. You should also throw Sydney and West Coast in there as well as through that period they will also be competative which means winning flags will be tough with some many teams being at the peak of there powers.

Can we at least wait for this team to win a few games before going into raptures about their flag winning potential? There are no guarantees in football.

It was terrific to see Karmichael Hunt kick that fantastic goal and deliver one right on the nose to his critics.

He might not have a background in the game but the way he struck the ball so sweetly off his foot would have been the envy of many footballers who have been in the system for years.
