Good old fashioned scoreboard with 2 forwards kicking the majority of golas, 15 between them. Great to see.

Good win. Port were up by a few more but South got the last 2 or 3 goals. Great to see Merce have a game like that.

He played very well against Norwood last week, 4 from 6 goals, presented himself well and would have kicked more if he had more opportunities.

Where to for South from here?
Thought they were turning it around a couple of weeks ago but todays loss was a bad one. Port had 10 more scoring shots so the margin could have been greater

Was a good entertaining game of football.
Skills werent the best or cleanest from both teams and Richard Williams certainly knows how to ruin a game of footy...

And if Nick Murphy actually got near a contest rather than running along the boundary line all day he might have had more of an impact...

Really disappointing. :(

The lesson we have learnt from this is South have NFI how to win away from home. Until they learn how to win away that they will always be fighting to play finals football.

Wundke great but we need another forward to help the guy.

Stribling, Liddle, Daniel solid performance.

We got killed in Ruck so another Ruckman would be good as well.

Port.....usual AFL suspects stood up with experience.

Mercer was great.

Good to see some old fashion fight with the battle of the forwards.

Like I said, South really need to win away and just not at home. :(

Yeah mate, good question.

Today we had the opportunity to really place pressure on the 5 especially with Glenelg's loss.

Thought they would have done better today but as usual with South ...as soon as you see light at the end of the tunnel....your eyes are suddenly covered in darkness.

We cant play finals footy if you cant win away..simple.

Even though South lost today, you South guys must have seen an improvement on last year ?

Wundke and Stribling both look like good signings for you.

Lot more competitive than last year. Might take a while to "gel" as a unit. Still no excuse as we have been in situations in games that are winnable.....

Wundke and Stribling have been awesome for us. Mainly Stribling.....he is a real worker.

2 wonderful signings...... ;)

Enjoy them whilst they are there ;)

I guess all you can ask for is continued improvment. Port lost a few last year by some narrow margins (a bit like north this year) and it seems they too have improved this year.

It makes the bottom 4 much closer this year and less predictable

Bitterly disappointing, but not a huge surprise given South's reputation for failing in important games like this one. :?

Southee summed things up from a South point of view pretty well. Skill level sub-standard at times. We mucked around with too much handball coming out of the backline. Killed in ruck. Forward pressure an ongoing issue with opponents able to bring the ball out of defense too easily. Umpires seem to get worse every week. Mystifying at times.

Port harder at it, and much cleaner when going forward. Mercer very good, while Summerton always impresses when I see him.

Wundke the obvious stand-out for South. Good to see him having his kicking boot on today. Liddle and Stribling had their moments, but too many contributed very, very little.

Hopefully this ain't the start of another looooong losing streak.

really disappointing....

only a couple of good contributors for us- Thewlis, Crabb and Wundke and Liddell.
Far too many South players spectating and not interested in applying themselves physically ,and guilty of applying a lot of "matador tackles."
Flogged at the stoppages ,flogged in the ruck, ball exited our forward line far too easily, putting immense pressure on our defence.
I honestly believe the scoreline flattered us, Port really should have won by 10 or more.
Umpiring was appalling.

not sure where we go from here.... :(

I look at it this way, season 2011 is two years into the five year plan that Fuller stated to the club prior to being hired that he needed to turn things around. This season albeit with results like today is still a steady improvement on last season.

Once again we have to turn the list over at the end of the season and again try and bring players into the club that are of a better standard. Which no doubt we will do.

The worry for South at present is the absolutely dismal results and prospects of the reserves and U/18 sides, the club could do with having some pressure on the league list to perform which isn't there at the moment. I don't think its unreasonable to hear from Fuller via his weekly blog on that issue either.

We may only be part way through the second year of the five year plan, what happens then.

Today I really gave us a chance and expected the game to go either way by a couple of goals to either side, but to get flogged the way we did by 50 plus points really shows that we are so far off the mark, we are in a no better position than we were when Clay was coaching the side, I agree we have changed the list and added some better players, lost some and injuries always play a part with ALL footy clubs, to be honest from the way I see it, nothing has changed that will make other teams afraid of being beaten by South.

There are still two or three blokes pulling on a jumper each week who dont deserve to be there, unfortunately there is nothing being applied from below if today's results are an indication of where we are at.

Wundke with 7 goals, Murphy, McLeod, Liddle, Cross, Stribling in patches, Crabb, for his defensive spoiling, Sandery in the latter part of quarters, Thewlis, Daniel and Horne were the pick of the better players, we certainly need a heck of a lot of lift from the others that are currently just making up the numbers.

I thought it fair to name those who put in rather than those are not yet up to the standard which is required to take us to a competitive level in this competition.

A couple of comments on today's umpiring.

Bloody woeful for both teams, when are we going to see the last of Richard Williams destroying our game of football, he cannot bounce the ball any more because of back ailments, when is he ever going to learn to throw the ball as high in the air as those who can actually bounce the ball, this is where the congestion around the packs form from, which resulted today in many stoppages and another toss up occurring, if you cant do it properly Richard, then now is the time to bugger off and let someone else in who is capable, all three umpires today didnt understand that around the neck or being ridden into the ground is an infringement against the offender and simply allowed play to continue as if there were no such rule in the book.

On today's performance South deserve to be where they are on the ladder and could finish even lower at seasons end.
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting
