Round 9 - Glenelg v WWT @ Glenelg - 2.10pm Sat 28/5/11

Postby GWW » Sun May 22, 2011 8:11 pm

The Bays have some very promising youngsters in their side and they strongly contributed to their round 8 win against Sturt. WWT are currently 3rd on the ladder and that's an accurate reflection on where they stand and they show all the signs they'll be a contender come finals time. The Bays have the home ground advantage and are very capable of winning this encounter, however I think the Eagles can win in a close one by 2 goals.

The Wiggles are the 2nd best side in the competition at the moment, Glenelg's form hasn't been great. Sorry Dedja, The Wiggles by 5 goals (even though they are crap at Glenelg normally).

of those youngsters you speak of up to 3 of them wont be playing this week as they have 'u/18's state duties'

for mine if glenelg can't win at home against a team full of injuries this week, we will just be making up the numbers come finals time

Yes we have got some wins but I think the eagles have only played one really good match this year.

Great win on the weekend but far from convincing. We have some serious issues at the moment regarding our forward line. Without Salter (or other key forward) we don't play a direct game hence our low scores. Thank heavens our backline is rock solid.

The other serious gap is a second ruck option. When Parry is on the ground we play well. As soon as he comes off and Bock goes on we struggle. How can the tallest ruckman in the league only get a couple of taps each game? He is afraid of body contact which is a big problem. Anyone know what is wrong with Redden? I think we need to swap the two.

Would expect Tiller and Geddes to be out this week with injury. Perhaps Bernie Vince will be an in if he doesn't go straight back in with the Crows?

Was looking to see who got best in the reserves and two names who have played a reasonable amount of league footy, albeit not under Godden's reign, were Tom Corbett and Craig Fitzgerald. Perhaps they will get an opportunity this week. There is still some depth there despite 7 or 8 first 21 players on the injury list.

Selection changes this week with Tiller,Geddes injured and Rowntree, Hentschel still missing:

1. Expect Hoban to replace Bock. Hoban still lacks the footy smarts but gives us a body to smash in and provide the crumbs - something that Bock can't do.
2. Corbett to be chosen to help cover the midfield loss of Rowntree.

What is going to be difficult, is finding the third tall for the backlines to cover one back-pocket on the Bays abundant tall forward line and, secondly, the third tall besides Grocke and Staple - not much in the Reserves to get excited about - Culley, Heinjus, Hill nor Grocke's brother hardly warrant promotion Very interesting at selection table this week.

How far off is Paul Stewart and Chris Hall? Is Zac Fitzgerald still listed as indefinite?

Don't write off Geddes yet, sprained ankle may not be as bad as thought. Hoban in for Bock is a must. McKenzie has more than split webbing but don't be surprised if he still plays. Bernie would be handy for Rowntree. I don't think Godden rates Corbett- he just burns the ball too much and turn overs have cost us dearly this year. Tiller, low pain thresh hold! Fragile as wet tissue paper!

I don't believe we will lose 3 guys from last weeks team to State 18s Bayman -though 1 definately (Ben Kennedy)
I believe Hender will get another week to play with us.

I'm not sure who the 3rd one is that you were thinking of?

Wonder where Heinjus and Hill are with their footy? Was a big wrap for Hill last year, but hasn't really gone on with it. Watching Heinjus on Saturday I wonder if it is a bit of an attitude in that he seemed to want to only fly for the high marks. Has a good size body now and reasonably athletic. Bit damning that neither of these blokes got a game on Saturday looking at our forward line unless Godden went with Raymond because of the possibility of rain.
Unlucky for Fitzgerald, because there is a spot there at the moment.

Despite being found 'guilty' of striking, with an early guilty plea and a good record, Alex Grima's initial 1 match ban gets reduced to a reprimand and he is free to play in this game.

Will be joined by his brother Todd, returning from his 1 match suspension.
