Comment Wally May

Postby Bag The Points » Sat May 21, 2011 11:57 pm

What a sad week. First we lost Bobby Davis, and then we hear that the great Wally May has passed on.
I guess there may not be too many old fossils like me who remember when Wally May was one of the biggest names in SA football during the Fifties and Sixties --- first for his reputation as the toughest man in the League, and then as compulsive viewing on the "World Of Sport" Sunday programme on Channel Nine.
The catchcry "Comment Wally May" was all over the State whenever some footy fan made a statement.
Rest in Peace great man !!! How I wish there was still some old footage available to remind us (and show the younger generations who never knew you) of how truly great you were.

Max Hall, Ian Aikten & Wally May now that was a commentry team. Compulsive viewing on the footy replay and the sunday football show. Knew the game and called it as it was.

As expected no mention of his playing and tv career in SA last night before the Essendon & Richmond game just his time at Essendon.
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

The precise wording was "A leap like a startled gazelle", but it was Ian Aitken who used to coin that phrase.
