Best/Worst sirens

Postby Brucetiki » Sun May 22, 2011 12:18 am

I notice there's some discussion about sirens on the Eagles v West review thread.

So that thread doesn't get completely derailed by discussions about the quality of sirens at grounds, lets move the disccusion here.

So who has the best siren? Who's siren needed to be replaced yesterday? Which ones send you deaf? Which one's wouldn't even wake a baby?

Discuss

Watching a couple of North's game on ABC, it sounds like a patched up buzzer that's dying a slow painful death. Been like that for years though - I remember going there in 2003 and they had resort to a cowbell to start the game!

Noarlunga's tonight sounded a bit crook at times tonight.

Since Glenelg replaced theirs, it's loud on the grandstand side but barely audible on the outer side.

Unley's, Alberton's, Woodville's and Richmond's need louder sirens (I think Richmond should go back to that ship horn sound they used in 2003  )

Elizabeth's is pretty good (and if it fails we just get TransAdelaide to send a train past  ), as is Norwood's when it goes through their PA system. Perhaps that could be one way to improve the sirens at grounds - have them all go through the PA system (if it's possible).

The WAFL sirens are very different from the SANFL. The SANFL ones are usually a constant tone, whereas the local ones are a rising pitch. If you've seen a video of one of the telecasts you'd know what I mean.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

The one at Fortress Woodville is fine when working well, but is awful when it isn't, it's just not working well in the last few weeks.

how difficult can something so simple be? Hmmm.....let's see, I have an oval, now I need a siren, i think I'll go to the siren shop and buy one. Shop assistant..."Hello, how are you? Would you like to buy a siren?" me..."yes please, these are dimensions of my oval, i want a siren that will be soooo bloody loud that everyone will hear it and not complain." Assistant..."Then you need this one, it's called The Mother Fu**er of all sirens." me..."thankyou, i will proceed to the check out now to pay for it. have a nice life."

If they'd been to the right oval shop, the siren would've been sold as part of the package.

No, just the option of suggesting a muffled place for them to put it if it doesn't do what they say it does. ;)

You could add at least the football team and catering to that list.
