most of us HAVE played a higher level than central JC. thats not the point i feel in this case.

from when i played in the hills(1972) to (1990) as a player the only time i can remember a lower division or zones (in the early days) was when a combined zone 3 side (teams included hahndorf, echunga, meadows, kangarilla, bridgewater, langhornes creek , macclesfield and milang) beat a combined zone 1 side ( teams included heathfield/aldgate, stirling, uraidla, onkas, lobethal and mt.barker) in the late 70's.

mind you if all the zone 1 players committed to playing in that carnival that w/end zone 3 would have been thrashed.
the heathfield/aldgate team of that era would have beaten zone 3 by themselves.

since then there has never been any indication of a lower division (zones) ever beating a division 1 team even in trials. further to that in 1983 the league combined both leagues and not one division 2 side defeated a division 1 side in A grade that year.

never say certain teams would have made central division finals because FACT they can't while playing country division.
it is just an assumption that you and other people in country division have as do central people have that a country team won't beat any side in cental dvision.

this will only ever become possible when the hills league is almalgamated into one division. BUT most individual teams would either be gone by the wayside or MERGED.

yes i agree that country division has improved over the years and that the gap has closed and so it should with the amount of recruiting of players coming from town and other areas. BUT i will always stand by the decision that country(div2) is exactly that a div2 level of footy.

only BIRDWOOD has the oppourtunity this year to compare the divisions BUT i personally think their on a hiding to nothing.

M80s interesting about the H/Aldgate beating the zone side, what do you reckon about a side with the best players from div2 taking on the mtlofty side of last year. i think you have to back lofty, not just cause im a lofty man but just picking the premiers. prob pick uris to do the same.

I'd personally say Lofty would win in a canter GTS, as would Uraidla and probably Onkas too

Does Bridgey have BOTH Kluzeks this year?
If so, surely that's got to be a massive lift right there.
And will anyone kick 100 goals this year?
I reckon if Flash is left on his own up fwd, could be a chance.
Any other clubs got a centurian kicker in their midst?

GTS it was just my assumption that the H/A side of that era would have beaten the zone 3 side. if memory serves me correctly the H/A team won 88 games in a row until they were defeated by onkas in a 2nd semi final after both teams kicked over 20 goals. then onkas gave them their 2nd loss with in the fortnight by downing them in the 78 G/F.

you must remember that sides like H/A, ONKAS , URAIDLA and LOBETHAL had a lot of sanfl players in those days (NO AFL)
some gave up their sanfl career early and continued to play in the hills.

not seeing a game last year (living interstate) i couldn't comment on a div2 V mt.lofty side. BUT from the information i get back from the hills mt.lofty were the team to beat.

surely the end to Johnny C's argument about top 3 div 2 sides making the finals last yr... would be the fact that ironbank were very much in same boat a few years ago in div 2 as kangarilla are now, ironbank then came up to div 1 and didnt make the finals for a couple of years and that was after heavy recruiting.

Does anyone know how many div 2 players were in the Association team this year and if so did they get a kick??? would be interesting to see, i can remember back a few years when my father was runner i went and had a look and there was 2 players, chad dawe and chris sheehan(who is one of the best if not the best player to ever play for Echunga in DIV 2), chad played well but chris wasnt to special, although that team had some superstars like Matt Cooper, Campbell Flower, Randall Pearce, Kings brothers and Jake Sziller Lachy Munday.

Like sands through the hourglass.... this board is like a soapy, i can tune out for a week and come back and you are all still raving on about the same old crap.

Back to footy...Does anyone know any of the central teams pre season games?? I know about Loftys but im more interested in whether Bridgy, Ironbank and Uris have any. I know that IB have one on the 17th but does anyone have anymore details about it???

Don't worry, LF, we tried to steer clear of the Div 2 debate but it just keeps coming back.
I'm pretty sure that Blackwood have one against Athelstone. This isn't due to me giving a toss about b/wood, I just know that's all.

if kersbrook has a full team; both james', dew, francou, pearce etc then they will probably win without much trouble, havent seen any recruits for hahndorf of any quality apart from gallagher from norwood and he isnt THAT good, will be handy though but

I agree that Chris Sheehan is possibly Echunga's best player in recent times. Peter Munn before him. Chris was probably mid 30's when you saw that game. Take 5 years off and he was amazing.

Sheehan's a top bloke too. Was good mates with his younger bro Daniel who was also a gun player. Not sure what he's doing now - haven't heard from him for ages.

Are you fair dinkum, Bobby? Do the Brookers have Dew and Francou? That's bloody handy! Get em up to Central and let Dew kick out from fullback at Shanty and he'll dob a goal at the other bloody end!!

I'm pretty sure Dan played for Echunga last year. Didn't do anything special - too lazy like his younger days.

He's certainly not a gun.
