You're a cheer squad for a SANFL team with a reasonable following. You turn up on a Friday night with plenty of members, plenty of flags, and a banner with the team's name to affix to one of the southern stands. Your team plays mostly like cr@p, and by the 14 minute mark of the final term it's clear that your team is going to get an embarrassing pasting. What do you do?

1. Stand your ground, break into song, cheer each rare goal loudly, and generally get right behind your team, adding colour and noise to the game.

2. Stay silently 'til the end of the match, clapping each goal politely but without passion, not wanting to abandon your team.

3. Bugger off silently and meekly, taking flags, floggers and even the banner affixed to the grandstand, so that the few remaining goals kicked by your mediocre team are met with deathly silence, and the empty seats left by your vacation sticking out like a sore thumb, a stark testament to your lack of backbone.

Oh, go on! Do tell, I am dying to know the answer. 8-}

[quote="baggy8"]Hard to tell how good Glenelg are, they're certainly not 9 or 10 goals better than Sturt. It was relatively easy for them to rack up goals at the end as we only had 17 men on the ground for the last thirteen minutes and Angus Kurtze hadn't been able to run for at least ten minutes before he walked off.

Well considering they had about 10 kids playing with less than 10 games under their belts, I would say they are pretty good. So, going by that, I would say we are at least 9-10 goals better than Sturt

The kids are alright ;) Lot to get excited about with Armfield, Hender, Kennedy, Earl etc etc. McGinty looks a good back up for Cranston.

We were losing men then, but the Bays were the better side, but perhaps 4 or 5 goals better.

Sturt missed Sheedy terribly; it's scary to think how dependent they are on him.

I believe the injury to Stokes may be an ACL, don't know about Thomson but he also came off on a stretcher, Hurley did his hammy (didn't look too bad) in his first game for yonks and Kurtze appeared to hurt the knee that he's already had trouble with this season.

On the positive side I thought Hingey was very good against his old side, as was Matt Duldig until he came off for that pizza, but overall it's a good time to have a bye methinks.

Having only 17 men on the ground is no excuse baggy8. :D

Dutchy & Matt You forgot Jordan McMahon with only 6 ;)

Earl & Nick Cane didn't end up playing, but Gus Lally has only played 13 games over the past 3 years as well.

Our inexperienced guys stood up well last night, and showed they deserved their league chance.

Although Matt Duldig has played well for Sturt since leaving Glenelg, last night highlighted why Glenelg were correct in their decision not put him back on our list for 2011.
Giving opportunities to and developing our young strong forwards in Darcy Armfield 19 yrs old, Lewis Hender 17 yrs old and Josh Trembath 20 yrs old (who played Reserves last night) is a more productive long term plan. Plus we have another lad playing U18s atm, Jordan Murdoch, who is catching the eye, kicking 24 goals in 5 matches.

Agreed. I did leave McMahon out though and as pointed he has only played 7 senior games.

Very poor form by the cheer squad. I was sitting in the Bradman Stand and noticed them pack up and go around then also. I was told they did the same thing against West earlier in the year. Thank christ I have nothing to do with these people anymore.
10 or so fire crackers being let off by them through the game was pretty poor form also.
Embassingly for me I used to stick up for their moronic behaviour when I ran the squad

i thought that was very bad from them, when sturt had the lean years down the bottom in the 90's, the cheer squad would stay until the end.
