Reading the 'tiser today and he stated that our midlfield rivals that of Collingwood. Now, I love the Crows but I don't think that you can compare Thompson, Reilly and Douglas to Swan, Pendlebury and Thomas.

Two years ago Reilly was playing for his career at the Crows. I was one that was on the ship him back to Melbourne train but, am very glad he has made me eat my words. He has turned in to a very valuable member of the team. Douglas is a spud at best and was the best of an average crop last year. Thompson is one that is justifiable to be mentioned in the same article as those 3. A very under rated midfielder and IMO would be one of the Top 10 ranked players in the league.

Would love to hear everyones opinion wether you agree with me or not.

Thompson isnt rated by alot of people unfairly for his dissposal, however when you are having 35 of them and high contested possession i think you can be forgiven. I rate him massively and he is vital to AFC in the next 2-3 years

Reilly disposes of the ball well and has been thrown around a bit in his time at AFC but seems settled the last few years.

Douglas i dissagree with you SD. He was a stand out last year and developed massively. He has been bashed around the ears by 'supporters' ever since he came to the club. He played as a small forward for the start of his career where he probably never played as a junior. Being a small forward is the hardest possie on the ground. He kicks for goal well and marks well for a medium/small player. Although his form hasnt been great this season i think he will bounce back and be good for our midfield in years to come.... plenty of development left in him

I wouldnt throw Thomas in there but i agree, at the moment i wouldnt be comparing us to Pendles, Swan, Ball.

Thompson and Van Berlo are the only ones i woud rate with them at the moment. I think Van Berlo is very underrated.

Hopefully in a couple of years time we can compare our midfield of Dangerfield, Sloane, Mackay, Thomspon, Van Berlo and at his best Vince to the likes of collingwood or Geelong.

If not better than. There are some good signs, I just really hope that we can find consistency and not get blown out of the game in the 1st quarter this week.
I think Martin has it there also if he can get a few games like the StKilda game rd22 last year.

Plenty of upside in that list of names. We're seeing flashes of potential at the moment, and I reckon we'll notice the consistency level out as the season progresses as well.

We're pinching a win occasionally to stay in the hunt - if we can keep doing that and then start claiming a few bigger scalps towards the end of the year then we'll be in business for a finals spot IMO. Luck with injuries is obviously also key to this though.

After this week we have:

Brisbane home
North away
Eagles home
Bulldogs away

Great chance we can make half way with an even win/loss count. Just gotta be competitive enough on Sunday to keep the confidence of the young players growing (ie we can't afford a repeat of the Melbourne game).

I am glad they are using Reilly in a specific role. I really wish I could like Douglas but have not since he started at the club. One player I really wish they would play out of the middle or even from the back flank is Dangerfield. I really think he is being wasted up forward permanantly. Where the game is at the moment it is warranted to rest him up forward but, when we are being smashed in clearances I fail to see why he is being left up forward.
I thought having 2 big guys being paid to play as key forwards you would leave it like that. You could see that he was itching to get in the middle on Saturday. Throw the kid in there and let him go nuts. He is still going to kick goals coming off a back flank and in the midfield so, we are not really losing to much scoring power up forward and gaining a kid that has the confidence to take the game on.

Now there's a bloke who keeps getting better each week. Not sure if he's quite there yet - but he would be worth a run soon.

He doesn't seem keen to have a shot from 50 at the moment though which puzzles me. They were his bread and butter a couple of seasons ago.

Has this been done previously? Now this is only an observation. Would the fact that he is only a one footed player have anything to do with it? He is the typical left footer. Is nothing but class on the left but, kicking on his right does not come as natural to him as say a NDS.

When he was tried in the midfield a few years ago he turned the ball over a fair bit, hence the shift to half-forward.
So far this year I haven't been too impressed, just doesn't seem 100% and is nowhere near the player he was in 2009.

I am the opposite, yet agree he is not at his 2009 seasons form. You have to give him the benefit of the doubt. He has been injury riddle since that season and coming back this year with not much of a pre season, he has offered a little bit extra each game. I think he may have gotten a little bit of confidence out of the game, I just hope he can replicate the form.

He could be a bit of an X-Factor for us this week if he does.

The AFC is not a club that gets flogged.
As Roo said the lads need to show pride in the jumper.

Round 7 ring a bell? Maybe a visit to your GP and have a Alzehimers test...

Adelaide are $10.50 for the win!

Now there's some odds in a two horse race. Almost worth chucking a cheeky tenner on.

heading down on sunday and hoping rather then expecting to see a good performance from the boys. I think the collingwood style of hugging the boundary line really suits the crows as we seem to have most trouble with the teams that come back through the middle, which the pies don't do as much. That and the fact we are more accustomed to etihad then collingwood (stupid i know but they hardly ever leave the G) are little glimmers of hope that we can take into sundays game.
