I can here the calls already: "stupid publicity stunt", "leave the showstopping to your cousin" and so on, but good on him I say.

He's probably my favourite ever non Australian batsman, and whilst he's likely to only play at a low level in his comeback, it will nonethless be interesting to see how he goes.

Read the article earlier, my thoughts are along the line that they are coming from a pretty selfish line of thinking... But how many times I have thought to myself I wish Bradman had played another series and ended up averaging 100+... Still he wouldn't exactly be moving the game forward for his 1st class side or country. Time to say goodbye, accept it and dont hold back a young kid.

I can't see this being successful, but all the best.

But in saying that, NZ cricket isn't really in a position where Crowe playing is holding back a young kid, more so preventing the team being filled with one more player who isn't up to standard.

Yeah fair point, but if you have they have that attitude they will never move forward - eg english cricket in the 90's... There has to be a young lad he is preventing - whether they are up to standard or not shouldnt matter - they wont find out if Crowe takes his spot.

Why not get John Howard to bowl to him if the ball lands on the pitch, then the runs will flow.

This was the lead story on NZ news when it was announced.

Having listened to numerous interviews with him discussing the matter, it seems far more selfless than at first glance.
Crowe has only said that he is coming out of retirement to play club cricket and if enything else happens so be it. He said that he would be focusing just as much on the development of the game and his team mates as himself. He is very heavily involved with college rugby in the winter and has a void in the summer. He was inspired by the climbing of Mt Everest by Adam Parore to improve his own fitness and saw this as a way to push himself. You can also tell that he just wasnt happy having to retire early due to injury and is still itching to succeed.
