Bollocks, they have four drafts every year (National, Pre-season, Rookie and Train-On) to grab players from wherever they like; surely that's enough. The line has to be drawn somewhere for the leagues below to have some stability.

I'd prefer the AFL to allow a mid year trade period between the AFL clubs which could be used to bolster any weaknesses. To my knowledge no AFL team has ever been without 22 fit players to name a team, however they might have a weakness in ruck or Tall defenders for example, due to injuries.

I might have heard this somewhere else but imagine if the Crows & Power could swap Maric & C Cornes at some point during the year. It would be mutually beneficial to both parties (if they rated the players etc...)

This would prevent gun players from being taken from the state leagues and weakening the integrity of 2nd tier comps.

Is the best idea, BUT, the salary cap would be a point that needs to be addressed. ie, C Cornes would be on a contract worth more than Maric..
