I note one L Button named in there. I hadnt noticed him sneak into the GSFL till then (his clearance on SP came up after he played!). Sounds like a good get for Strath (unsure how he makes this squad so quickly though).

id say because he is a league level ruckman, unbelievable skills for a big fella both sides. He will dominate the comp for the rest of 2011!
has been signed at strath for 3 years now just has been in town playing so is a 0 or 1 point player also. SMART recruiting thats what id call it.

   I wish some of you guys would get a clue re the points system. It makes for frustrating reading. He WILL BE EITHER 3 or 4 points unless he is a juniors of Strath, which I was unaware of.

Just because you sign a player 3 years ago, doesn't mean he losses points for you if he doesn't play for you!! & is still playing at a league side.

The only other loop hole is if he was signed before the points system was introduced & on your list as of 2007-2008, then he's 0 points aswell

There is no issue with Button's points. Played 8 league games in 2010, 5 reserves games (majority league), therefore he is a 4 pointer and on Saturday that is exactly what Strath listed him as

Spot on LuvsFooty he definately is four points, fabio sounds a bit confused doesn't matter when you sign the player up still will be 4 points based on last year league at glenelg. He has been our runner and assistant coach on the bench for the first few games. Didn't play at the start of the year due to a ruptured spleen from last year. Only played in the last two games, will be very handy as the year goes on. Great for strath to finally have a ruckman with some height/weight and experience.

In regards to 'field of dreams' comment i don't think you would have seen his clearance up on sporting pulse as he needs a clearance weekly from glenelg as he is still a contracted player, not sure if this normally has to happen but seems time consuming for administrators.

No doubting that fabio. I guess I was more wondering what the selection criteria was. ie based on performance so far this year, recent form, does last years count, is it restricted by age constraints..

Many rep sides end up with guys selected on reputation, which may or may-not be a valid method but is a kick in the teeth for a lesser light that has stepped up and deserves a go. Picking a guy after 2 games with 1 x 4th best is a prime example.

This could get me hung for treason but there are also couple of Victor players named that I know would admit they havent shown their best in 2011 so far.

I dont have a problem if they pick Button. No Steele or M.Thomas so your picking the 3rd best ruckman anyway.

Reckon this game was round one, but even so dont know that i would say if you had video taped a game. Pretty sure that you have to get League approval to tape any GSFL game. Although not sure what they could do if you were caught out.

We were terrible today, but on the other hand bays were very impressive. Mcgregor is a great pick up. What ever he is getting paid is money well spent. Doesn't winge, isn't flashy but does the job, works hard, does what he's told to do. Massie will no doubt hand is pay packet back tonight, he got as much of the footy as me and I didnt play but his presence is important. Bays 'lesser' likes are good and played very well today. I think they'll kill a few giants this year.

LuvsFooty wrote:The difference in 1st and 10th is now massively different. Looking at us as an example, our average losing margins v Yank, Creek and Strath last year combined was 135 points. This year it is 23 points. I reckon you could show a similar improvement if you looked at Bays, Pongy and McLarens stats as well.

Hard to pick a GSFL GF at this stage. I think it will come down to injuries and depth, which makes me lean towards Willunga. If you check their B Grade results, they are winning easily and have quality to fall back on. Strath at full tilt are still a great side and were very good yesterday, but from what I saw they could not afford injuries in the A's. I was shocked and amazed when their B's rolled in with 13 or 14 players, topped up the rest with senior colts and got smacked up by a team, that didnt win a game last year. Thats never happened in my time as a player and could be one of the little differences in such a tight year.

The arguement for your theory gets stronger LF with Willunga the only club to have wins in the A's and B's yesterday. Undefeated in the B's with the rest of the A grade top 5 clubs all in the bottom 5 in the B's. The other sides will have to have their best group on the park at the end of the year to give it a shake - this is possible of course but Willunga have the best chance it seems.

Victor were far too strong for McLaren yesterday with many players starting to find some form. Scoreboard was close at quarter time but Victor had wasted opportunities with 2-7 then in the second gained momentum with 7-4 to 2 goals in the quarter. Another 7 goals to 2 in the third saw the game pretty much iced. Umpires seemed to want a closer contest with the free kick count at 16 to 4 in Mclaren's favour midway through the term. Last term was a more even contest on the scoreboard with victor running out winners by 69pts. Still plenty of upside for Victor with plenty of room for improvement in many areas.

Willunga also have the "great man" back on deck as well. Maybe BJ Ernest can fill us in on how he is going?
