Shane Warne retires

Postby Gozu » Fri May 06, 2011 6:24 pm

AUSTRALIAN cricket legend Shane Warne is set to bow out of professional cricket at the conclusion of this month's Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition.

Since retiring from international cricket following Australia's 2007 Ashes triumph on home soil, Warne has continued playing on a part-time basis with a brief stint in England, and an annual role with the Rajasthan Royals in the lucrative IPL tournament.

He has resisted calls for a comeback to international cricket, instead limiting his output to the Royals where he led the side to the 2008 trophy.

Warne has taken the equal-third-most wickets in the four seasons of IPL, snaring 55 while conceding 7.25 runs an over.

He is the seventh-ranked bowler in this year’s tournament and the best performed Australian - taking 11 wickets at 5.91 an over.

As far as players go, Don Bradman 1, Sachin Tendulkar 2, Shane Warne 3.

Thanks for the memories, Oh Great One.
