It was said well on the Sunday Footy Show last week. Port are irrelevent in the AFL.
They're also at risk of being irrelevent in the SANFL, the sooner they take one club and just run it in the SANFL to get one club up to speed the better for all involved.
Better to do one thing well instead of doing two things terribly.

Where did I write that? I'm just saying that a supporter base doesn't necessarily translate into match-day attendance. Last night's Crows game being a good example.
But I'm tired of the unfounded attacks on the PAFC.
35,000 Members, far from the worst in the League. And not including the crappy 3 game memberships that other clubs do.
22,000 at agame. Not great but far from the worst in the League. Try 16,000 for Nth Melbourne yesterday.
Our Stadium deal, in an era of Live against the gate telecasts. THE WORST IN THE LEAGUE.

beenreal wrote:That would give the AFC about 700,000 supporters. Last time I looked (last night?) there wasn't 700,000 turning up to Crows games. More like 20,000 empty seats from a club with a waiting list.

No, YOU didn't write it, Tim Ginever did, has some of experience of the club I believe, it's not true then ?

It would be interesting to compare the attendances of clubs like Collingwood, Geelong, Carlton, St. Kilda and Essendon over periods when they are doing well and periods of not-so-well...lesthemechanic wrote:These 2 clubs have fickle fans that are not true "supporters " . They won't turn up unless you are winning & they expect you to win every game. Richmond have been in the bottom 3 or 4 for years & still their ever suffering fans get out there & support their team.
Sure, you guys on here turn up, but not enough of you do.

They'd have to cover some of the seats with tarps though so it looks full...CENTURION wrote:Maybe Port need to get a bloody big limo & pick up all their supporters & take them to the game!

Myth. Perhaps the hardcore turn up but even Brian Taylor used crowds to justify the Collingwood/ Essendon Anzac fixture staying as it is when on-air at the Hawthorn/ Geelong game.

Sigh, I meant, where did I write that we don't have 300,000 supporters. That may well be true but in an era of live telecasts, 7 day trading and so many other things to do, it doesn't always translate into match day attendance.
The world/ football landscape has changed in the last 15 years. Perhaps the SANFL needs to change with it and provide a better stadium deal.

No problem, we'll ride it out.
