Round 5 - Sturt v North @ Unley - 2.10pm Sat 30/4/11

Postby GWW » Mon Apr 25, 2011 7:58 pm

Both clubs are coming off a loss and will need to notch a win this week to stay in touch with the 5. Although I think Sturt are capable of getting the 2 points on their home deck, I think the Roosters with a few more options up forward will win, in a close one.

My tip: North by 14 points

North Adelaide are notoriously slow starters for the year, sitting last in the competition for scores in the first 10 minutes of every quarter. In fact in the first four matches, the Roosters have only scored 2.4 in the first 10 minutes of the match in their first four games. Conversely Sturt has scored 6.4, so a fast start is important if they're to win.

I'd like to know how some grounds are certified for night footy. Richmond lights are rubbish. If you have to squint and cover your eyes (not just for poor footy) as a spectator, it must be ridiculous for the players - forget the home team because they train under those conditions.

Only 2 grounds IMHO are worthy of night footy, AAMI and Adelaide.

Having trouble picking the winner in this one .. I rate Sturts midfield as highly as any in the competition, but I give the Rossters the nod up forward and down back.

Would expect it to be a reasonably close game.

I can't see North winning to be honest. Too many changes and to lose 2 experienced midfielders in Wright and Backwell has to hurt us (plus a running defender) big time. Other than Allan the rest of the midfield "on ball brigade" is light on for size and experience and despite Ackland being in great form the reliance on Allan will be too much this week. Don't think we will have enough supply to Alleway and Gill to kick a big score.

I think it's probably going to come down to how well you can restrict the Sturt midfield from directly affecting the scoreboard .. They don't look too scary up the front (with all due respect to Duldig and Johncock), but they do look capable of scoring 4-10 goals from midfield types.

Sturt of course are showing signs of being enigmatic too .. With their best sounding very good, but their worst equally as bad, but I think the good Sturt might rock up this weekend.
