Fat Cash Cow Vs Long Term keeper.

Postby Trader » Wed Apr 27, 2011 12:40 pm

Just reading the Rd 6 trades thread and it seems others are struggling for downgrade targets, I thought it was me!!!

As a first year supercoach player, one thing (amongst many) I struggle with is how to determine if I should cash in on a good cow, or keep them as a long term Keeper.

For mine, the best example of this I have is Heppell. He's currently in my midfield as a regular, but then I have Harris and Libba on the bench. Heppell was only in the side originally as a bit of a cow, and also to provide some flexibility with the Back/Mid MPP.

Now that he has stepped it up, I'm thinking of keeping him long term, but to do so, I think he should prolly play down back, allowing one of Harris/Libba to come to the field, and then I can dump someone like Otten. Or Coad, who I still have as I didn't like the look of anyone last week.

Is Heppell a true keeper, or have I been sucked in by his efforts in the blockbuster at the G on Monday?
If so, is it worth moving things around so I can play him down back, or should I leave him in the guts?

Basically the movement relies on the Coad Trade, do I pick up someone like Thompson or Pedersen who I note hasn’t played since rd 1? But don’t know why. Also what happened to Puopolo? Or do I bring in someone with the MPP Back/Mid such as Hibberd (who hasn't got a game yet), and then sit Hibberd on the bench in the guts with Harris/Libba on the field. Or is there someone else I should be looking at all together???

My Team is currently:

Backs: Scotland, Deledio, Gibbs, Goddard, Duigan, Stanley, Otten. - Lower, Toy, Coad
Mids: Pendlebury, Judd, Boyd, Heppell, Montagna, Swallow. - Libba, Harris, Prestia.

I'm thinking if I trade Coad to Hibberd, then I can swap Hibberd with Heppell using their MPPs. Libba goes on the field and Hibberd to the bench in the mids. Heppell goes on the field down back, with Otten making his way to the bench, which would give me:

Backs: Scotland, Deledio, Gibbs, Goddard, Heppell, Duigan, Stanley. - Otten, Lower, Toy
Mids: Pendlebury, Judd, Boyd, Montagna, Swallow, Libba. - Harris, Hibbard, Prestia.

Will be interested to hear the thoughts of the SC veterans on this site (or anyone willing to help!)
Danny Southern telling Plugga he's fat, I'd like to see that!

Regarding Puopolo, he was BOG in the Reserves on the weekend.

Also, IMO Pederson will be picked this week.

Upgrading a rookie to a premium, ideally you require 2 rookies valued around $300K.

Cash in one of those rookies to upgrade the other.

If your are aiming to snaffle a fallen premium, then one of the rookies could be cashed in for around $200-250K.

Cashing in a rookie will also depend on whether you think they have peaked in price (have high BE) or if there is a rookie on-the-bubble too good to not bring into the side.

There's not many cases where a rookie keeps up their scoring at a high enough level to justify holding them in an on field spot in your team. They tend to fade a bit as the year goes on. However, sometimes you can move too early to trade out a high scoring rookie. I think in the midfield it's important to get 6 premiums but in other positions someone like Heppell could stay in your last defensive spot until you are forced to trade him.

If you could work it Heppell could be the ideal 7th midfielder to cover premiums on their bye.
